Quick answer
Two of the three list 80 by 76 by 14 inches, the 14 inch grid frame and the Sweetcrispy (700 pounds, “12 inches off the ground”), and the OSASET lists 80 by 75 by 42 inches with a headboard, 12 inches of under-bed space and a 3,000 pound claim. The ratings vary from 700 to 3,000 pounds for similar steel, so we treat them as page claims.

14″ Heavy Duty Metal Platform King Bed Frame with Grid Structure
The page describes a dense grid that prevents sagging, mattress baffles at the head and foot, pre-drilled holes for any standard headboard and a reinforced structure with no box spring. It lists 80 by 76 by 14 inches. A grid can suit a thin latex mattress, per the page.
Sweetcrispy King Bed Frame, Metal Steel Slat Platform
The table gives 80 by 76 by 14 inches, steel, 700 pounds and the model HJ23611king. The bullets say the platform sits 12 inches off the ground for storage. Compared with the other two pages it states the lowest rating.
OSASET 14 inch King Bed Frame with Headboard
This frame adds a headboard (the 42 inch height) and says the 14 inch platform has 12 inches of under-bed space, 9 reinforced legs and steel slats supporting up to 3,000 pounds, assembled in about 30 minutes. It has plastic foot plugs and non-slip strips for the slats.
Worked example: fit, height and what the ratings mean
This is our own arithmetic. A king mattress is 76 by 80 inches by the Amerisleep chart we opened.
| Frame | Length vs mattress | Width vs mattress | Bed top with 10 in mattress |
|---|---|---|---|
| Grid 14 in | 0 | 0 | 24 in |
| Sweetcrispy | 0 | 0 | 24 in |
| OSASET | 0 | -1 in | 24 in |
For ratings, a king mattress of 150 pounds and two sleepers of 180 pounds each (assumed) total 510 pounds. The Sweetcrispy’s 700 pounds covers that with a 190 pound margin; a 3,000 pound claim is a larger margin, but all three would carry the example, so the number matters mostly for heavier users or extra loads. Our bed frame for overweight person guide covers that.
What “no box spring” needs
A platform frame replaces the box spring only if the slats or grid suit your mattress. Nest Bedding’s warranty asks for slats no more than 4 inches apart and center support to the floor on queen and larger, so a king must have a center leg. The OSASET page lists nine legs; the other two pages did not tell us in the parts we read. See bed slats, bed frame middle support and king platform bedframe.
A worked scenario: a king bed in a rental
This is our own scenario. A renter moves every year and wants a king frame that comes apart. The grid frame and the Sweetcrispy are both 14 inch steel frames that ship flat; the OSASET adds a headboard that stands 42 inches high, which is a longer box. Steel frames tend to use bolts and a few parts, and the OSASET page says about 30 minutes to assemble and that no further tools are needed. For a renter, how many times the frame can be assembled and taken apart matters, and the pages do not say. Count the bolts and keep them in a labeled bag.
A worked scenario: the cost of a wrong size
A king mattress that does not fit costs a return. The three frames list 80 by 75 to 76 inches. A king mattress is 76 by 80 inches, which is a match for the grid and the Sweetcrispy. The OSASET at 75 inches wide is 1 inch narrower than the mattress; a mattress of 76 inches on a 75 inch deck overhangs by half an inch a side, usually fine. If you have a mattress that is a little oversize, which happens, the overhang grows, and a frame with raised end boards may not hold it. Measure your mattress before you order, and measure twice.
Questions to ask the seller before you order
- How many legs does the king frame have, and is there a center leg?
- What is the gap between slats or the size of the grid?
- Does the frame come with mattress stoppers at the head and foot?
- How tall is the headboard on the OSASET, and is it removable?
- What is the warranty period?
After it arrives
Lay out the parts and count them against the list. Build the frame in the room where it will live, since a king frame is long. Fit the slats before the mattress. If the frame squeaks, check the bolts first and then the slat ends; our non squeaky bed frame guide has the usual causes. If you plan to add a headboard later, ask where the reserved holes are.
When a different frame would suit better
If you want a king bed with storage drawers, see king bed frame with drawers underneath. If you want a lower look, see low profile platform bed king. If you want a frame that works with an adjustable base, see king bed frames compatible with adjustable base. A steel platform is the practical choice when you want to avoid a box spring, move often and keep the cost of the frame down, and it is the least comfortable to sit on the edge of, since steel rails are hard.
Reading the three listings critically
The weight claims range from 700 to 3,000 pounds for similar steel frames, which tells you the figures are not tested to one standard or are calculated in different ways. The OSASET page’s 42 inch height is the headboard, not the bed, and the Sweetcrispy page’s “12 inches off the ground” is the clearance, not the frame height. When you compare, line up the same quantity: frame height, under-bed clearance and total height with a headboard are three different numbers.
A final check on the numbers
Write down the length, width, height and clearance from each page, and then your mattress’s size. A king is 76 by 80 inches, so a frame at 80 by 75 or 76 is a normal match. Compare the total height, which includes the headboard on the OSASET, with the room’s ceiling and window. Then compare the claimed weight, and choose the frame whose page tells you most: leg count, slat gap and assembly time in writing.
Mistakes to avoid
Assuming all king platforms have a center leg. Check the leg count.
Reading 42 inches as the bed height. It includes the OSASET headboard.
Treating the rating as a test. It is a page claim.
Forgetting the headboard. Two of the three do not include one.
