Measure an Adirondack cushion along the chair’s surface, from the front edge of the seat up to the top of the back, since the length is not the seat depth alone. The three listings read here run 44 to 50 inches long and 19 to 20 inches wide, with thicknesses of 2.4 and 4 inches. The weather claims are the sellers’, and we have not seen the test reports. Then check the ties and grips, and what the listing means by water-repellent or waterproof.

We read three Amazon listings on 2026-10-01: a set of 2 cushions with removable covers and a 28 inch backrest (ASIN B0G483BW4Y), a 44 by 19 by 4 inch one-piece cushion with a non-slip base (B0GSFVMW7H) and a 50 by 19.6 inch set of 2 with a polyester-fiber fill (B0DQKR8J3G). They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. Every number comes from the listings, and the weather and testing claims are the sellers’.
For the chair itself, see adirondack chairs. For rocking chair pads, see rocking chair cushions. For other outdoor seats, see outdoor dining bench and zero gravity recliner.
Measure along the surface
Adirondack chairs differ in the seat’s tilt and the back’s height, so a cushion’s length is not the same as the chair’s depth plus the back height. Use a flexible tape and measure along the seat from the front edge to the back, then up the back to the top slat. That is the length a one-piece cushion has to cover.
A worked example with illustrative numbers. Your seat is 22 inches from front edge to the back, and the back slats go up 26 inches from the seat. The surface length is 22 + 26 = 48 inches. A 44 inch cushion is 4 inches short and leaves the top of the back bare. A 50 inch cushion overhangs by 2 inches, which is usually fine because the cushion bends and ties. Width matters too: the slats are about 19 to 22 inches wide on many chairs, which is our general expectation and not a number from the listings.
The three sizes
The first listing gives 45 by 20 inches for each cushion and mentions a taller 28 inch backrest. The second gives 44 by 19 by 4 inches. The third gives 50 by 19.6 inches (50 by 20 in its detail field), and its comparison table lists thicknesses of 2.4 inches for the polyester-fiber version and 4 inches for a memory foam version.
So the lengths run from 44 to 50 inches, a 6 inch spread, and the widths from 19 to 20 inches. A chair with a short seat and a short back suits 44 inches; a chair with a deep seat and a tall back suits 50.
Thickness
The second listing gives 4 inches. The first listing’s thickness was not recorded in the text we read. The third lists 2.4 inches for the polyester fiber set and 4 inches for a memory foam variant in its table, so check which version you order.
A 4 inch cushion is plush and takes more space: it raises your seat by up to 4 inches and moves you forward on a sloped back. A 2.4 inch cushion is slimmer and stays closer to the shape of the slats. A thick cushion on a low Adirondack can make it harder to stand up, which is a general observation and not a claim from the listings.
How they stay on
An Adirondack cushion is on a slope, so it tends to slide. The first listing says a non-slip dot-grip bottom, two adjustable tie straps on the seat and a hidden elastic band on the back that wraps around the chair. The second says a textured non-slip bottom, an elastic back strap and two cinch straps around the frame. The third says tie-back attachment with reinforced banding.
Straps need slats or a frame to wrap around. A chair with solid arms and a solid back may leave nothing to tie to. Check how many tie points the cushion has and where your chair offers them.
Fill
The first listing says a high-density foam core and a removable, machine washable cover. The second says foam beads, 70 percent foam and 30 percent silk fill, and says the cushion arrives vacuum packed and looks flat on arrival. It tells you to pat and shake, then sun for 24 to 48 hours or tumble on low for 30 minutes to restore the loft. The third gives a polyester fiber cotton fill in the 2.4 inch version and says its filling is stitched with concealed anchor lines instead of buttons.
Vacuum-packed foam beads can take a day or two to fluff. Do not judge a cushion on the day it arrives. Foam cores keep their shape; fiber fills compress and need fluffing over a season.
Weather claims, read carefully
The first listing says its cover has passed independent SGS tests for water repellency and fade resistance, with an inner waterproof film, and that it protects against daily sun and light to moderate rain. The second says its solution-dyed polyester sheds moisture and resists fading for 3 or more years outdoors, and calls it weatherproof. The third calls its cushions water resistant and fade resistant, and says it is PFAS-free and “skin-safe”.
These are seller claims. We have not seen the test reports or verified the “3+ years” figure. “Water repellent” and “water resistant” are not “waterproof”, and a cushion that sits in rain absorbs it in the foam and takes days to dry. If you leave cushions out, expect them to get damp, and store them in dry weather if you can.
Weight and cleaning
The first listing gives a weight of 7.72 pounds, probably for the set of 2. A removable cover that is machine washable is useful, and the first listing says its cover has a hidden zipper and is machine washable. The other two listings did not say in the text we read.
Dry a washed cover completely before putting it back, since a damp foam core can mildew.
One-piece or two-piece
The second listing is a one-piece cushion that covers the seat and back together. The first and third are sold as sets of 2, which are two cushions for two chairs, and our reading is that each is a single piece, since each cushion is listed with a 45 or 50 inch length. A two-piece (separate seat and back) set fits better on chairs with a very sloped back but needs more ties.
If your chair has a very deep or tilted seat, a one-piece cushion may bridge a gap at the bend. Check the hinge point against the cushion’s flex.
Rocking and other chairs
The second and third listings say they fit rocking chairs too. Rocking chairs have shorter backs, so a 50 inch cushion may overhang. The third is described for both indoor and outdoor rocking chairs.
The three listings we read
Adirondack Chair Cushions Set of 2, Removable Covers, Water-Repellent and Fade-Resistant Faux Linen (ASIN B0G483BW4Y). The listing gives 45 by 20 inches, a taller 28 inch backrest, a high-density foam core, a washable cover, a non-slip bottom, two tie straps and a back elastic band, a weight of 7.72 pounds and SGS test claims. Good for: a set with several attachment points and a washable cover. Keep in mind: no thickness was recorded.
Adirondack Chair Cushion with Non-Slip and Waterproof, 44x19x4 Inch, One-Piece (ASIN B0GSFVMW7H). The listing gives 44 by 19 by 4 inches, foam beads fill, a non-slip bottom, an elastic back strap and two cinch straps, a weatherproof claim and a restore-the-loft guide. Good for: a thick, one-piece cushion with a care guide. Keep in mind: it arrives vacuum packed and is the shortest.
50×19.6 In Adirondack Chair Cushion Set of 2, Outdoor Chair Cushion (ASIN B0DQKR8J3G). The listing gives 50 by 19.6 inches, a thickness of 2.4 inches for the polyester fiber version, tie-back attachment and reinforced banding, and says it fits indoor and outdoor rocking chairs. Good for: the longest cushion. Keep in mind: the thickness depends on the variant and it may overhang a short chair.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not measure only the seat. Do not assume a cushion has tie points that match your chair. Do not read “water resistant” as “waterproof”. And do not judge a vacuum-packed cushion on the day it arrives.
Who should skip chair cushions
If your chair is comfortable as it is, a cushion adds a place for water to sit. If you leave the chair out in all weather, a quick-drying mesh seat may last longer. If your chair has a solid back with nothing to tie to, a non-slip pad on the seat alone may be enough.
Frequently asked questions
What size are Adirondack chair cushions?
The three we read are 44 to 50 inches long and about 19 to 20 inches wide. Measure along your chair’s surface.
How thick should they be?
The listings give 2.4 and 4 inches. Thicker is plusher but raises the seat.
How do they stay on?
Non-slip bottoms, ties or cinch straps and elastic back bands, according to the listings.
Are they waterproof?
The listings say water repellent, water resistant or weatherproof. Those are claims and not tests we have seen.
Can I wash them?
One listing says the cover is machine washable. Check the care label for the others.
Bottom line
Choose Adirondack chair cushions by measuring along the chair’s surface, then checking length, thickness, ties and the weather claims. Of the three listings, the first is the set with a 28 inch back and several straps, the second is the 4 inch thick one-piece cushion and the third is the 50 inch long set with a thinner fill. Measure your chair before you order.
