An anti-fatigue mat is a cushioned pad you stand on at a standing desk or a kitchen counter. In a small apartment the question is rarely how soft it is. It is whether the mat fits the floor in front of your desk and whether you can move it out of the way. This guide compares seven mats, including the ComfiLife 3/4 inch mat, using the Amazon listings we opened on October 17, 2026. We have not tested any of them. Where a listing contradicts itself or says nothing, we say so.
Quick answer
For most small standing desks, start with the Gorilla Grip 32 x 20 inch mat: it lists a 3/4 inch foam body, a rubber backing and simple care, and we found no conflicts in its listing. Choose the FEATOL if you want the thickest mat here (0.9 inch) with beveled edges listed. Choose the Art3d if floor space is the problem, since it is the smallest at 28 x 17.3 inches. The ComfiLife is the longest of the group at 39 inches. Whichever you choose, a mat will not fix everything: it is one part of how you set up standing work.
What matters in an anti-fatigue mat for a small space
The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) describes anti-fatigue mats as a way to reduce fatigue from standing on hard floors, and it says that a mat alone may not solve the whole problem. It also lists the things to check: a mat should have some give but not be so soft that standing becomes uncomfortable, and it says “Softer and thicker may not always be better.” It adds that sloped edges are less of a trip hazard, and that an improperly placed mat can cause trips and falls. We use those points below. The page is undated, so check its current wording through the source link at the end.
Size and where it goes
The listed sizes run from 25.2 x 19.2 inches to 39 x 20 inches, and the Fellowes goes to 36 x 24 inches. In a small room, measure the clear floor in front of the desk, not only the desk width. The worked example below does that.
Thickness
Three of the seven list 3/4 inch (0.75 inch), the FEATOL lists 0.9 inch and the Art3d lists 0.5 inch. The Fellowes lists 1.9 centimeters, which is about 0.75 inch. The Topo Mini listing gives no thickness. Because CCOHS says thicker is not always better, the thickest listing is not automatically the best fit for you.
Edges and grip
Three listings state beveled or sloped edges: the FEATOL, the Art3d and the Fellowes. The FEATOL, the Art3d, the ComfiLife and the Gorilla Grip list a non-slip, slip-resistant or rubber backing, though the wording differs. The Amazon Basics and Topo Mini listings state neither.
Weight and storage
You will probably want to move the mat when you sit, vacuum or cook. Listed weights run from 1.83 pounds (Art3d) to 4.58 pounds (Fellowes). No listing gives a folded or rolled size, so do not assume any mat folds flat.

Worked example: how much floor does a mat take?
Suppose you have 36 inches of clear floor between the front of a desk and the wall behind you, which is a made-up example, so use your own measurement. We take the mat’s listed size and give the area in square feet (length times width in inches, divided by 144).
| Mat | Listed size | Area | Floor left if the 36 inch gap is its long side | Floor left if the 36 inch gap is its short side |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Art3d | 28 x 17.3 in | 3.36 sq ft | 8 in | 18.7 in |
| Topo Mini | 25.2 x 19.2 in | 3.36 sq ft | 10.8 in | 16.8 in |
| Gorilla Grip, FEATOL, Amazon Basics | 32 x 20 in | 4.44 sq ft | 4 in | 16 in |
| ComfiLife | 39 x 20 in | 5.42 sq ft | does not fit (3 in too long) | 16 in |
| Fellowes | 36 x 24 in | 6.00 sq ft | 0 in | 12 in |
Notice that the choice of orientation matters more than the mat. A 39 inch mat does not fit lengthwise in a 36 inch gap, but it fits across it. Keep in mind that you also need room to step around the mat without tripping over its edge.
Common mistakes
- Choosing the thickest mat by default. CCOHS says softer and thicker may not always be better.
- Ignoring the edges. A mat with no stated bevel is more of a catch point, especially on a rug or a threshold.
- Placing the mat so it overlaps a rug edge or a doorway, which can cause trips.
- Expecting the mat to do the whole job. Footwear, the floor underneath and changing your position matter too, according to CCOHS.
- Trusting one line of a listing. The FEATOL and Art3d listings contradict themselves on care and material.
Who should skip an anti-fatigue mat
If you stand for only short stretches at a counter, you may not need one. If you move between sitting and standing all day, a mat that sits where the chair rolls may be in the way, and you will end up pushing it aside. In that case a footrest or a better chair setup may do more. See our guides to desk footrests and standing desk versus fixed desk in a small room.

FAQ
How thick should an anti-fatigue mat be?
The listings here run from 0.5 inch to 0.9 inch. CCOHS says softer and thicker may not always be better, so use thickness as one factor with edges and size, not as a score.
Do I need a mat for a standing desk?
Not always. CCOHS says a mat may not solve the whole problem and that footwear, the floor and changing position matter too. A mat is a reasonable addition if your floor is hard and you stand for long stretches.
Can I use a kitchen mat at a standing desk?
Several of these are sold for both. The ComfiLife, Gorilla Grip, FEATOL and Art3d listings name kitchens and standing desks as uses. Check the edge shape and the size for the space you actually have.
Will a rolling chair roll over the mat?
The listings do not say. Our reading is that a mat with a stated bevel, such as the FEATOL, Art3d or Fellowes, may be easier to roll over than one with no stated bevel, but none of the listings makes that claim. Many people simply push the mat aside when they sit.
How do I clean one of these mats?
Most listings say to wipe with a damp cloth. The Gorilla Grip also lists vacuuming and the Art3d lists rinsing. The FEATOL gives two different instructions in one listing, so follow the maker’s care label.
Is the ComfiLife mat a good choice for a small apartment?
It is the longest of the group at 39 x 20 inches, so it needs the most clear floor. The listing we opened is one size; the search results showed other ComfiLife listings, so look at the size before you order.
Bottom line
Measure the clear floor in front of your desk first. If you have a 32 inch strip, choose the Gorilla Grip, or the FEATOL if you want a stated bevel. If you have only about 28 inches, choose the Art3d. If you have 39 inches or more, the ComfiLife gives the most length. Skip the purchase if you stand only briefly, and put the money toward your chair or footrest instead.
