Measure the top of your nightstand first, then choose between a height-adjustable pair and a bendable single lamp. The Kondras and the JUNNAI are sets of two table lamps with a pole that slides between about 22 or 23 inches and 30 inches. The Larnix is a single flower-shaped lamp with a bendable gooseneck. The pairs have a 12 inch footprint listed, which is wide for a small nightstand, and the gooseneck has a 6 inch base listed. An adjustable bedside lamp lets you change either the height of the light or the angle of the arm.

What an adjustable bedside lamp does
A fixed lamp has one height and one spread of light. An adjustable bedside lamp lets you move the light. A height-adjustable pole raises the shade for general light or lowers it for reading. A gooseneck bends the head toward the page without moving the base. In a small bedroom, one lamp that does both jobs saves a second reading light on the wall.
It also helps with fit. A short lamp slides under a shelf or a window; a taller lamp throws light over a headboard. Because you can set the height, one lamp suits a nightstand now and a taller table later.
The three lamps we compare
Kondras height-adjustable bedside lamps, set of 2
The Kondras set is sold as two table lamps with a black metal base and a white fabric drum shade. The title says the height adjusts from 23 inches to 30 inches. The listing gives 12 inches deep, 12 inches wide and 30 inches high, weighing 7.6 pounds, with an E26 socket and the bullets mention dual USB charging ports at 5 volts and 2.1 amps. One structured field lists the shade height as 30 inches, which cannot be the shade alone, so treat that figure as the lamp height and check the listing. Two lamps are useful for a bed with a table on each side.
JUNNAI height-adjustable table lamps, set of 2
The JUNNAI set is also two lamps, in black metal with an oatmeal linen shade, listed at 12 by 12 by 30 inches and a listed weight of 8 pounds. The bullets say the height adjusts from 22 to 30 inches and that the bulbs are 6 watt LEDs with three brightness levels switched by a pull chain; the title says bulbs are included. The listing gives a shade height of 9 inches. The listed height range is 1 inch wider at the low end than the Kondras (22 inches against 23 inches), which is small but means it sits a little lower when pushed down. It needs assembly, and the listing points to videos.
Larnix flower gooseneck lamp
The Larnix is a single lamp with a flower-shaped acrylic shade on a bendable gooseneck, in green iron with a weighted base. The listing says the stem rotates 360 degrees, offers three color temperatures (warm, neutral and cool) and uses a 3.5 watt E26 LED bulb. The bullets say installation takes 10 minutes. The dimension line reads 6 inches deep, 19.6 inches wide and 6 inches high, and the shade height is 5 inches. Those labels look mixed up for a lamp on a stem, so we read 19.6 inches as the stem length or height and recommend that you check the listing. It is the most decorative of the three and the smallest on a surface.
Height range or gooseneck?
Both ideas solve the same problem in different ways.
Sliding pole
A pole that slides between 22 and 30 inches changes the height of the whole shade. It works for a lamp that lights the room and a reader that lights a page. The footprint stays the same. Check that the clamp holds the pole in place, because a pole that slides down under its own weight is annoying at 2 a.m.
Gooseneck
A gooseneck puts the head where you want it without changing the height of the base. It is better for reading, since you can aim the light down at the page and away from a partner. A thin neck can droop over time, so check the listing for how firmly it holds a position.
Light, bulbs and controls
The Larnix listing says it offers warm, neutral and cool color temperatures, and the JUNNAI listing says it has three brightness levels. Those are different controls: one changes the color of the light, the other its strength. For bedtime, a warm setting is usually more relaxing than a cool one, though that depends on your taste.
The pairs use standard E26 sockets according to the listings, so you can change the bulb. Check that you buy a bulb whose wattage does not exceed the label on the socket; the listing is the place to read it. For USB charging, the Kondras bullets give dual ports at 5 volts and 2.1 amps each, handy if the nightstand has no outlet space.
Size and footprint
Footprint is the number that decides whether a lamp fits. Both pairs list a 12 inch width and depth. That is probably the widest point, likely the shade (the JUNNAI bullets mention a 12 by 10 by 9 inch shade), so the base may be smaller; check the listing and treat 12 inches as the safe, cautious figure. The Larnix lists a 6 inch base, which leaves much more of the nightstand free. A nightstand top often has to hold a phone, a glass, a book and a lamp. A lamp that takes a full 12 inches takes a big share of a narrow top.
Worked example: a 20 inch wide nightstand
This is our own planning example, using the full listed 12 inches as the footprint to be cautious. A nightstand has a top 20 inches wide and 16 inches deep. You want to place a lamp on it. We measure the width first.
Width direction:
- Kondras or JUNNAI, 12 in wide. 20 in minus 12 in equals 8 in of top left in total. If the lamp is centered, 8 in divided by 2 equals 4 in on each side, which is not enough for a phone plus a glass. If the lamp sits at one end, the full 8 in is on one side.
- Larnix, 6 in base. 20 in minus 6 in equals 14 in of top left in total. Centered, that is 14 in divided by 2, which equals 7 in on each side. At one end, 14 in is on one side.
Depth direction: the nightstand is 16 in deep and the pairs are 12 in deep, so 16 in minus 12 in equals 4 in of top left in front or behind. The Larnix is 6 in deep, so 16 in minus 6 in equals 10 in.
Height direction (made-up numbers for the example): say the top of the nightstand is 26 in above the floor. A lamp pushed down to 22 in reaches 26 in plus 22 in, which equals 48 in above the floor. Pulled up to 30 in, it reaches 26 in plus 30 in, which equals 56 in. The range is 30 in minus 22 in, which equals 8 in of adjustment.
In this size of nightstand the pairs work only if you leave the 4 in margin free of clutter, which is why the Larnix is the better fit for a small top.
Cords and outlets
Cord length is not given in the data we have, so check the listing. A lamp that is 12 inches wide with a short cord may not reach a far outlet behind a bed. Do not run a cord under a rug or through a doorway.
If you use USB charging, remember that a lamp with USB ports needs to be plugged in to charge. The Kondras listing describes ports on the lamp itself.
Who should buy an adjustable bedside lamp
- Readers who want to move the light as they sit up or lie down.
- Couples who want a light that does not shine on the other person.
- Small-room owners who want one lamp for two jobs.
Who should skip it
- Owners of very narrow nightstands. The pairs take 12 inches of width.
- Anyone who needs a wall-mounted light. These are tabletop lamps.
- People who want a fixed, quiet look. An adjustable pole is moving hardware.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Measuring the nightstand height but not the width. The footprint decides the fit.
- Trusting a single height figure. Two listings give a range plus a maximum.
- Forgetting the bulb. Check what is included.
- Ignoring the cord. Reach the outlet before buying.
Checklist before you buy
- Measure the width and depth of the nightstand top.
- Compare with the 12 inch or 6 inch footprint.
- Decide between a sliding pole and a gooseneck.
- Check color temperature and brightness controls.
- Check cord length and bulb socket.

Frequently asked questions
How high should a bedside lamp be?
As our planning estimate, set the light so it falls on the page without shining in your eyes when you sit up in bed. The adjustable pairs here range from 22 or 23 up to 30 inches, so you can set it yourself.
Is a gooseneck lamp good for reading in bed?
Yes, because you can aim the head at the page. The Larnix listing says its stem rotates 360 degrees, but check how firmly it holds its position.
Do adjustable bedside lamps come in pairs?
The Kondras and JUNNAI listings are sets of two. The Larnix is a single lamp.
Can I change the bulb?
The listings mention E26 sockets, and the JUNNAI title says bulbs are included. Check the maximum bulb watts on the socket label before swapping.
Will a 12 inch lamp fit on a small nightstand?
It will fit a 20 inch top but leaves only 8 inches in total beside it. For a narrower top, look at a lamp with a smaller base.
