Its transitional styling may suit a bedroom or living room where a compact cube is more useful than a long bench.

What to check before buying grey leather ottoman

Start with the available floor area. The AmasSmile has the smallest listed footprint at 1.53 square feet, calculated from its 17-inch depth and 13-inch width. HomePop occupies 2.13 square feet, based on 17.5 inches by 17.5 inches, while SIMPLIHOME occupies 4.07 square feet, based on 17.7 inches by 33.1 inches. Choose AmasSmile for the tightest space, HomePop for a compact square, and SIMPLIHOME only when its longer bench shape fits.

Next, match the height to the intended use. AmasSmile is 13 inches high, compared with 16.5 inches for HomePop and SIMPLIHOME. The shorter AmasSmile may work better as a low footrest, while the other two are closer in height. Compare these measurements with your chair or sofa before ordering.

Storage details also separate the three. AmasSmile lists a 38-liter hidden compartment, and SIMPLIHOME provides interior measurements of 31.3 inches wide by 15.8 inches deep by 10 inches high. HomePop lists storage but does not state the interior dimensions. Pick SIMPLIHOME when knowing the compartment size matters; choose AmasSmile when a stated volume is more useful.

Finally, check the listed weight information and upholstery description. AmasSmile has a 330-pound maximum weight recommendation and weighs 4.6 pounds. HomePop and SIMPLIHOME each list a 250-pound maximum weight recommendation, with item weights of 17.2 and 27.6 pounds. The finishes are described as leather for AmasSmile, gray faux leather for HomePop, and vegan faux leather for SIMPLIHOME. If genuine leather matters, verify the listing language before buying.

Worked example: fit math for these three options

This worked example is our own planning arithmetic from the listed dimensions, not test results. The wall length and walkway width are assumed example values; replace them with your measurements.

Wall example. Assume 48 inches of clear wall.

• HomePop 18″ Classic Square Storage Ottoman: 48 − 17.5 = 30.5 inches spare; centred, 15.25 inches on each side before trim, plugs or curtains.
• AmasSmile Ottoman with Storage: 48 − 13 = 35 inches spare; centred, 17.5 inches on each side before trim, plugs or curtains.
• SIMPLIHOME Amelia 33″ Wide Vegan Leather: 48 − 33.1 = 14.9 inches spare; centred, 7.45 inches on each side before trim, plugs or curtains.

Walkway example. The US Access Board gives 36 inches as the minimum clear width for an accessible route. That figure is a yardstick, not a rule for private homes. To keep 36 inches clear beside each product, the walkway between it and the opposite obstacle must be at least 36 inches plus its depth:

• HomePop 18″ Classic Square Storage Ottoman: 36 + 17.5 = 53.5 inches of total path width.
• AmasSmile Ottoman with Storage: 36 + 17 = 53 inches of total path width.
• SIMPLIHOME Amelia 33″ Wide Vegan Leather: 36 + 17.7 = 53.7 inches of total path width.

Footprint. Depth × width, converted at 144 square inches per square foot:

• HomePop 18″ Classic Square Storage Ottoman: 17.5 × 17.5 = 306.25 sq in, or 2.13 sq ft.
• AmasSmile Ottoman with Storage: 17 × 13 = 221 sq in, or 1.53 sq ft.
• SIMPLIHOME Amelia 33″ Wide Vegan Leather: 17.7 × 33.1 = 585.87 sq in, or 4.07 sq ft.

Mistakes to avoid

• Ignoring the footprint. AmasSmile uses 1.53 square feet, HomePop uses 2.13 square feet, and SIMPLIHOME uses 4.07 square feet. Measure the intended spot before choosing a storage ottoman.
• Assuming similar seat heights. AmasSmile is 13 inches high, while HomePop and SIMPLIHOME are both listed at 16.5 inches. Compare those measurements with the seating around it.
• Overlooking storage details. HomePop does not state its interior dimensions, while AmasSmile lists 38 liters and SIMPLIHOME lists a measured compartment. Choose based on the kind of storage information you need.
• Treating all gray upholstery as the same. The listings describe AmasSmile as leather, HomePop as gray faux leather, and SIMPLIHOME as vegan faux leather. Verify the material description if that distinction matters.
