A cube storage organizer is a grid of open squares that you can stand up or lay down, which makes it easy to fit under a window or along a low wall. Of the three we compared, the Endearing Limons 4-cube is the smallest at about 25 inches square, the ClosetMaid Cubeicals 6-cube is 35.9 inches tall or 24.2 inches tall on its side, and the EXPERLAM 9-cube is a 35.6-inch square that comes with fabric bins. Measure your gap in both directions, because the same unit fits differently standing or lying down.
We have not tested these organizers. Sizes and features come from the Amazon listings, checked on September 30, 2026. Where a listing does not say, we say so.

Two listing details need care. The EXPERLAM table labels its size as 35.63 deep, 35.63 wide and 11.81 high, but a 9-cube unit is a square face with a shallow depth, so the 11.81 inches is the depth. The listing also says both “5 storage bins” and “three storage bins” in different places, so confirm the number on the product page. The ClosetMaid table gives a shelf thickness of 8 inches, which cannot be right, so we do not use that field.
Standing or lying down: which layout suits a small room?
- Standing (vertical) uses a narrow stretch of wall and gives the most storage per floor area. It needs a stable wall and, ideally, an anti-tip fixing.
- Lying down (horizontal) makes a low unit you can put under a window or beside a bed. It carries less risk of tipping, and the top can hold a lamp or a plant.
- All three list both orientations. Only the Endearing Limons lists an anti-tip kit in the text we read.
- Use bins where you want things hidden. Open cubes show everything. Fabric bins hide small items, and only the EXPERLAM lists them.
- For closed storage, a cabinet is neater. See our storage cabinet guide and small bookcases with doors guide.
Which layout fits your gap?
Enter the width and height of the space. The tool checks each unit both ways up, using the listed sizes. For the ClosetMaid, standing is 24.2 wide by 35.9 high and lying down is 35.9 wide by 24.2 high. The Endearing Limons is almost square, and the EXPERLAM face is square.
Layout check
Enter the width and height of the space in inches. Both fields are needed.
Compares listed outer sizes only. Baseboards, door swing and how far the unit sits from the wall also matter. Check the product page.
The three organizers
Endearing Limons Wood 4-Cube Storage Organizer Shelf, 11x11, Oak
The listing describes a four-cube unit with 11 by 11 inch openings that works standing or lying down, with a reversible open back and an anti-tip safety kit. It says it is stain-resistant engineered wood, and the measurements table gives 11.61 inches deep, 24.65 wide, 24.72 high, 25 mm shelves and 18.48 lb.
- Good for: a small gap, a desk side or the foot of a bed, especially if you want an anti-tip kit.
- Keep in mind: four cubes hold little, and the text we read does not state a load limit per cube.
ClosetMaid Cubeicals 6 Cube Storage Shelf Organizer, White
The listing describes a six-cube organizer made of laminated manufactured wood that can be set vertically or horizontally and stacked, with easy assembly. The measurements table gives 11.7 inches deep, 24.2 wide and 35.9 high, and 30.4 lb. The text we read is short and gives no load limit.
- Good for: a narrow wall where you want six cubes standing, or a low wide unit when laid on its side.
- Keep in mind: the shelf thickness in the table is wrong, and the text we read does not mention an anti-tip kit or a load limit.
EXPERLAM 9 Cube Storage Organizer, Solid Wood, with Storage Bins
The listing describes a nine-cube solid wood organizer with fabric bins that fold flat, three removable back panels and both vertical and horizontal use. The measurements table gives a set of 35.63 by 35.63 by 11.81 inches, 0.59 inch shelves and 43.4 lb.
- Good for: a large open wall or a room divider spot where you need many small compartments and want bins included.
- Keep in mind: the number of bins is inconsistent in the listing, the table labels are mixed up, and it needs the most wall space of the three.
How to choose a cube storage organizer
- Measure both ways. Use the tool above. A unit that does not fit standing may fit lying down.
- Depth. All three are 11.6 to 11.8 inches deep, which suits standard bins but takes some floor in a narrow room.
- Anti-tip. Only the Endearing Limons lists a kit. Fix any tall unit to the wall following the maker's instructions.
- Load. The text we read gives no load limits, so keep books and heavy items low and use bins for light things.
- Bins or no bins. Open cubes need bins to look tidy. Check the bin size against the cube opening before you buy.
- Weight of the unit. The solid wood EXPERLAM is listed at 43.4 lb; the 4-cube is 18.48 lb. That matters if you move it.
- Look at the rest of the room. See our small home office checklist and floating shelves guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is a cube storage organizer?
A shelf made of square open compartments, usually 11 to 13 inches each. Many can stand up or lie down and take fabric bins.
Which cube organizer is best for a small room?
It depends on your gap. The Endearing Limons is about 25 inches square, the ClosetMaid is 24.2 by 35.9 inches, and the EXPERLAM is a 35.6-inch square.
Can I lay a cube organizer on its side?
All three listings say they can be used vertically or horizontally. Lying down is lower and steadier.
Do cube organizers need to be fixed to the wall?
It is sensible for a tall unit. The Endearing Limons includes an anti-tip kit; for the others, follow the maker's instructions.
How much weight can each cube hold?
The text we read gives no per-cube load limit for these three, so plan for light items and bins.
Do I need bins?
Not necessarily, but open cubes show everything. Bins hide small items. Only the EXPERLAM lists bins in the box.
