1. Plastic Rolling Laundry Basket with Wheels, Foldable Laundry Hamper for Small Spaces, Laundry Cart with Wheels and Handle, Wheeled Laundry Basket for Bathroom, Bedroom, Apartment, Laundry Room (36L) — Footprint not comparable (conflicting listing dimensions)

Listed details: dimensions 10″ L × 6″ W × 12″ H (a listing bullet gives 9.4 × 13.6 × 19.3 in (axes not labelled in the listing)); color White.

This is a white plastic rolling laundry basket that the listing says holds 36L and folds flat. It has built-in wheels and a handle, and it is pitched for bathrooms, bedrooms, dorms and laundry room corners. The listing is inconsistent on size: the main dimensions read 10 in L × 6 in W × 12 in H, while a bullet gives 9.4 × 13.6 × 19.3 inches with no labeled axes. Treat its footprint as unverified. The spec table lists only the color, so the listing states no weight or weight limit.

Pros

• Described as foldable and collapsing flat for storage when laundry day is over
• Built-in wheels and a handle so it can be rolled from room to room
• Pitched for small spaces such as bathrooms, dorms and laundry room corners

Cons

• Footprint not comparable: 10 × 6 × 12 inches in the main listing versus 9.4 × 13.6 × 19.3 inches in a bullet, so verify before buying
• At 36L it has the smallest stated capacity of the three (the Sterilite lists 62 liters and the hamper 50 liters or more)
• The spec table lists only the color, so no weight, weight limit or wheel count is stated

Who it is for / who should skip it: Pick it if you want a foldable rolling basket for a tight corner and will verify the size first. Skip it if you need a firm size or a stated load limit.

2. Sterilite 1.75 Bushel Ultra Wheeled Laundry Basket, Handle and Wheels for Easy Rolling of Clothes to and from the Laundry Room, Plastic, White, 4-Pack — Largest listed footprint

Listed details: dimensions 21.13″ L × 16.75″ W × 22.13″ H; item weight 17 pounds; material Plastic; color White.

The Sterilite 1.75 Bushel Ultra Wheeled Laundry Basket is a white plastic basket with wheels and a retractable handle that pushes down when not in use. The spec table lists a 62 liter capacity and the bullet says 1.75 bushel. Outside dimensions are 21.13 in L × 16.75 in W × 22.13 in H, or 2.46 sq ft, the largest listed footprint of the three. It weighs 17 pounds. The listing says it is BPA and phthalate free and made in the USA, and it does not state a weight limit.

Pros

• Largest stated capacity of the three: 62 liters, matching the 1.75 bushel in a bullet
• Retractable handle pushes down out of the way when not in use, with smooth gliding wheels
• Listed as BPA and phthalate free and made in the USA

Cons

• Largest listed footprint at 2.46 sq ft, which is 1.21 sq ft more than the Laundry Hamper with Wheels (2.46 − 1.25), and 22.13 inches tall
• At 17 pounds it is far heavier than the 2.5 pounds listed for the Laundry Hamper with Wheels
• The text we reviewed mentions no lid, does not say it folds, and states no weight limit

Who it is for / who should skip it: Pick it if you want the largest confirmed capacity and have the floor space to park it. Skip it if you need a compact or foldable hamper.

3. Laundry Hamper with Wheels, Plastic Laundry Basket, 18.5 Gallons — Smallest listed footprint

Listed details: dimensions 15″ L × 12″ W × 18″ H; item weight 2.5 pounds; material Plastic; color White.

The Laundry Hamper with Wheels is a white plastic rolling hamper with four 360 degree swivel wheels, lockable casters, a flip-top lid and a ventilated perforated design. The capacity is stated three ways: 50 liters in the spec table, 70L in a bullet that calls it a laundry sorter, and 18.5 gallons in the title. It lists 15 in L × 12 in W × 18 in H, or 1.25 sq ft, the smallest listed footprint of the three, and 2.5 pounds. The listing describes a narrow profile for bedrooms, bathrooms, closets and dorms.

Pros

• Four 360 degree swivel wheels with lockable casters, per the listing
• Flip-top lid and a ventilated perforated design for airflow
• Smallest listed footprint at 1.25 sq ft and the lightest at 2.5 pounds

Cons

• Capacity conflict: 50 liters in the spec table, 70L in a bullet and 18.5 gallons in the title, so check the listing before relying on any of them
• The listing calls it a laundry sorter, but the text we reviewed does not say how many compartments it has
• No weight limit is stated, and it is not described as foldable

Who it is for / who should skip it: Pick it if you want a slim hamper with a lid and locking swivel wheels for a bedroom or closet, after you confirm its capacity. Skip it if you need a firm capacity number.

What to check before buying wheeled plastic laundry hamper

Start with the real capacity. The Sterilite lists 62 liters and 1.75 bushel. The Laundry Hamper with Wheels lists 50 liters in the spec table, 70L in a bullet and 18.5 gallons in the title. The Rolling Laundry Basket lists 36L. Until the 50 versus 70 liter conflict is resolved on the listing, you cannot compare the hamper to the Sterilite on capacity.

Second, size. The Sterilite is 21.13 × 16.75 × 22.13 inches (2.46 sq ft) and the Laundry Hamper with Wheels is 15 × 12 × 18 inches (1.25 sq ft), so the Sterilite takes 1.21 sq ft more floor (2.46 − 1.25). The Rolling Laundry Basket lists 10 × 6 × 12 inches in one place and 9.4 × 13.6 × 19.3 in a bullet, so do not rank it by footprint until you verify it.

Third, rolling. The Laundry Hamper with Wheels has four 360° swivel wheels with lockable casters. The Sterilite has wheels and a retractable handle that pushes down when not in use. The Rolling Laundry Basket has built-in wheels and a handle.

Fourth, storage and weight. Only the Rolling Laundry Basket is described as foldable. The Laundry Hamper with Wheels weighs 2.5 pounds and the Sterilite 17 pounds. The Rolling Laundry Basket lists no weight.

Fifth, airflow and lid. The Laundry Hamper with Wheels has a ventilated perforated design and a flip-top lid. The other two listings we reviewed mention no lid.

Sixth, limits. None of the three states a weight limit, so ask the seller before loading heavy laundry.

Decision rules: choose the Sterilite for the largest confirmed capacity, 62 liters, and a retractable handle, accepting 2.46 sq ft and 17 pounds. Choose the Laundry Hamper with Wheels for the smallest footprint, locking swivel wheels and a lid, after you confirm whether it holds 50 or 70 liters. Choose the Rolling Laundry Basket only if you need a foldable basket, after verifying its size.

Worked example: fit math for these three options

This worked example is our own planning arithmetic from the listed dimensions, not test results. The wall length and walkway width are assumed example values; replace them with your measurements.

Wall example. Assume 36 inches of clear wall.

• Sterilite 1.75 Bushel Ultra Wheeled Laundry: 36 − 16.75 = 19.25 inches spare; centred, 9.62 inches on each side before trim, plugs or curtains.
• Laundry Hamper with Wheels: 36 − 12 = 24 inches spare; centred, 12 inches on each side before trim, plugs or curtains.

Walkway example. The US Access Board gives 36 inches as the minimum clear width for an accessible route. That figure is a yardstick, not a rule for private homes. To keep 36 inches clear beside each product, the walkway between it and the opposite obstacle must be at least 36 inches plus its depth:

• Sterilite 1.75 Bushel Ultra Wheeled Laundry: 36 + 21.13 = 57.13 inches of total path width.
• Laundry Hamper with Wheels: 36 + 15 = 51 inches of total path width.

Footprint. Depth × width, converted at 144 square inches per square foot:

• Sterilite 1.75 Bushel Ultra Wheeled Laundry: 21.13 × 16.75 = 353.93 sq in, or 2.46 sq ft.
• Laundry Hamper with Wheels: 15 × 12 = 180 sq in, or 1.25 sq ft.

Mistakes to avoid

• Trusting one capacity number. The hamper’s capacity appears three ways in its listing: 50 liters in the spec table, 70L in a bullet, and 18.5 gallons in the title.
• Trusting the basket’s size. The Rolling Laundry Basket lists 10 × 6 × 12 inches and also 9.4 × 13.6 × 19.3 inches with no labeled axes. Verify before you plan a space for it.
• Overlooking the Sterilite’s footprint. At 21.13 × 16.75 × 22.13 inches it covers 2.46 sq ft, 1.21 sq ft more than the Laundry Hamper with Wheels.
• Assuming a lid. Only the Laundry Hamper with Wheels mentions a flip-top lid in the text we reviewed.

Frequently asked questions

How big is a wheeled plastic laundry hamper?

It varies widely. The Sterilite is 21.13 × 16.75 × 22.13 inches and holds 62 liters, the Laundry Hamper with Wheels is 15 × 12 × 18 inches, and the Rolling Laundry Basket lists two conflicting size sets. Check the listing’s dimensions against your closet or corner before ordering.

How much does the Laundry Hamper with Wheels hold?

The listing states it three ways: 50 liters in the spec table, 70L in a bullet and 18.5 gallons in the title. Because these conflict, check the listing before assuming a capacity. For comparison, the Sterilite lists 62 liters and the Rolling Laundry Basket lists 36L.

Do any of these fold flat?

Only the Rolling Laundry Basket is described as foldable, collapsing flat for storage. The Sterilite and the Laundry Hamper with Wheels listings we reviewed do not say they fold. The Sterilite’s retractable handle pushes down when not in use, which is not the same as folding.

Can the wheels lock?

The Laundry Hamper with Wheels lists four 360° swivel wheels with lockable casters. The Sterilite lists smooth gliding wheels and the Rolling Laundry Basket lists built-in wheels, and the text we reviewed does not mention locking for either. Check the listing if you need wheels that stay put.
