Choose the table from the gap beside your sofa and the height of the sofa arm. The three tables suit three gap sizes: the MMEOLUOOK narrow table, 7.08 in across, fits a gap from about 8 in; the Yenlure table, 11 in across, with two fabric drawers and a charging station, needs about 12 in or more; and the VASAGLE round table, 17.7 in across, needs an open corner or a gap of 18 in or more. The extra inch in those minimums is our own rule of thumb for breathing room, not a standard. Measure the gap first, then compare it with the side of each table that faces it.
Quick compare: the three tables

Why storage matters in a small living room
A side table beside a sofa often ends up holding a lamp, a drink, remotes, chargers and a magazine. A table with storage takes those items off the sofa arm and the coffee table. Closed drawers hide clutter. Open shelves keep daily items within reach. A basket takes loose throws and bags. Each of the three tables uses a different mix, so the storage you need should decide between them as much as the size does.
Weight cuts both ways. The MMEOLUOOK, at 6 pounds, is easy to slide out for cleaning but is also easier to knock over. The Yenlure, at about 14.3 pounds, holds its place better and is harder to move when you rearrange the room.
Measure three things first
The gap beside the sofa
Measure the floor space between the sofa and the wall, or between the sofa and a chair, at the front, middle and back. Use the narrowest reading. Then subtract the width of the table you are considering. A table in a gap with no spare inches will scrape the upholstery and make the walkway tight.
The height of the sofa arm
Measure from the floor to the top of the sofa arm. Our own rule of thumb is a table top within about 2 in of that height, so it sits within easy reach from the seat. Against a 26 in arm, the Yenlure is 0.8 in taller, the MMEOLUOOK is 0.41 in shorter and the VASAGLE is 6.3 in shorter. The VASAGLE still works as a side table, but its top sits well below the arm line.
The walkway
If the table sits on a path people walk, keep that path clear. The US Access Board’s accessible-route guidance uses 36 in as the usual minimum clear width for a route. That guidance covers public routes, so treat 36 in as a comfort target for a main path through a living room, not a rule for your home.
Worked example: a 14-inch gap and a 26-inch sofa arm
These numbers are an example. Replace them with your own measurements.
- Yenlure, 11 in across: 14 minus 11 leaves 3 in. It fits. Its 26.8 in height is 0.8 in above a 26 in arm.
- MMEOLUOOK, 7.08 in across: 14 minus 7.08 leaves 6.92 in. It fits with room to spare. Its 25.59 in height is 0.41 in below a 26 in arm.
- VASAGLE, 17.7 in across: 14 minus 17.7 is negative 3.7 in. It does not fit a 14 in gap. Its 19.7 in height is 6.3 in below a 26 in arm.
At 14 in, the Yenlure and the MMEOLUOOK both fit, and the VASAGLE needs a different spot. If the gap were 8 in, only the MMEOLUOOK would fit, with about 0.9 in to spare.

Storage type: hide, show or drop in
Closed drawers hide clutter completely, which suits remotes, chargers and cords. The Yenlure drawers need a few inches of clear space in front to open, so leave room for them. Open shelves on the MMEOLUOOK show what is inside. They work for books and for things you grab every day, but they also show clutter. The VASAGLE basket is a drop-in space: quick to fill and less tidy to look at, and suited to throws or bags.
Charging: check the outlet mix
Only the Yenlure lists built-in charging: two three-prong outlets, two USB-A ports and one Type-C port. The listing details for the VASAGLE and the MMEOLUOOK do not mention charging. If you want a table that charges phones beside the sofa, check the Yenlure outlet mix against your devices, and make sure the wall outlet behind the table is within reach of the cord.
Who should buy each table
- A gap of about 12 in or more beside the sofa, and a need for drawers and charging in one piece: the Yenlure.
- A tighter gap from about 8 in, and a need for open tiers for books plus a basket: the MMEOLUOOK.
- An open corner where a round top suits the walkway, and a need for a basket for throws: the VASAGLE.
Who should skip a side table with storage
Skip all three if the gap is under about 8 in. A wall shelf or a thinner stand will fit better there. Skip the VASAGLE if you need a rectangular top that runs along a sofa arm. Skip any table whose listed maximum weight is lower than what you plan to set on it. The listed figure is the maker’s number for the table as a whole.
Common mistakes
- Measuring the wrong side. Two of the three listings label their sides differently. The Yenlure’s 23.6 in side would not fit a 14 in gap if that side faces the wall.
- Trusting the finish. Rustic Brown says nothing about stability. Read the listed weight and the maximum weight instead.
- Leaving no front clearance. Drawers and baskets need room in front to open or to lift out.
- Ignoring the walkway. A table that projects past the front of the sofa gets knocked. Keep the front line clear.
- Assuming charging. Only one of the three listings describes built-in outlets.
Frequently asked questions
How tall should a living room side table be?
Measure from the floor to the top of the sofa arm, and aim for a top within about 2 in of that height. That is our own rule of thumb. Compare the Yenlure (26.8 in), the MMEOLUOOK (25.59 in) and the VASAGLE (19.7 in) against your arm.
What width fits a narrow gap beside a sofa?
The MMEOLUOOK, at 7.08 in, fits a gap from about 8 in. The Yenlure, at 11 in, needs about 12 in or more. A gap under about 8 in calls for a wall shelf or a narrower stand.
Is a round or a rectangular side table better for a small living room?
A rectangle runs along the sofa arm and uses a narrow gap well. A round top like the VASAGLE has no corners to catch on a walkway, but its 17.7 in width needs more floor space. Choose by where the table will sit.
Can a side table hold a lamp, a drink and books?
Check the listed maximum weight. The listings state 100 pounds for the Yenlure, 77 pounds for the VASAGLE and 60 pounds for the MMEOLUOOK. Those are the maker’s figures for the table as a whole. They do not say how the weight should be spread across the top or the shelves.
Do side tables with charging stations need special wiring?
The Yenlure listing describes a built-in charging station with outlets and USB ports. It does not describe special wiring. Confirm the cord length and the outlet on the listing before you buy.
