Quick answer

A tall round bar table is a small round table meant for standing or perching on stools. The word “bar” is loose: KitchenAid describes counter height surfaces as typically 35 to 40 inches tall and bar height as usually 41 to 43 inches. Of the three we read on Amazon on 2026-10-02, only the Flash Furniture Lars table, with a 42 inch column, reaches bar height. The two HOOBRO tables top out at 35 and 35.4 inches, which is counter height.

They are the Flash Furniture Lars 30 inch round table with 30 and 42 inch columns, the HOOBRO height-adjustable 21.7 inch round table (27 to 35.4 inches) and the HOOBRO 35 inch round bar table with a trumpet base. We have not tested any of them. Every figure comes from the listings, and where a listing contradicts itself we say so.

Contradictions to know about. The Flash Furniture listing lists a frame material of “plastic” and a base of metal with a chrome column and an aluminum leg, and says the tabletop is quadruple-coated birchwood with a heavy-duty black PVC edge; its care row says to use a solvent-based cleaner and no water. The adjustable HOOBRO’s title says 27 to 35.4 inches and its size row says 27 to 35.4 inches; its bullet says the lifter adjusts the height from 27 to 35.4 inches, and its table also lists “Maximum Lifting Height 35.4 inches,” which agrees. The fixed HOOBRO’s bullet claims the table is “ergonomically designed to give you body support while relaxing your shoulders and back,” which is marketing and not a measurement; we use only its size and load.

What “bar height” means for stools

KitchenAid’s ranges: bar height 41 to 43 inches with bar stools of 28 to 33 inches; counter height 35 to 40 inches with counter stools of 24 to 27 inches. The gap between seat and tabletop is the table height minus the seat height.

  • Flash Lars at 42 inches: with a 28 inch stool the gap is 14 inches, with a 33 inch stool 9 inches.
  • HOOBRO at 35.4 inches (adjustable top height): with a 24 inch stool, 11.4 inches; with a 27 inch stool, 8.4 inches.
  • HOOBRO at 35 inches: with a 24 inch stool, 11 inches; with a 27 inch stool, 8 inches.

So the 35 inch tables take counter stools and the 42 inch table takes bar stools. A bar stool at a 35 inch table leaves a gap of 2 to 7 inches, which is too small for knees. For stool shopping, see our bar stools guide.

A sizing example: a small corner

Allow 24 inches of table edge per person and 24 inches from the edge for a stool to be pulled out. The U.S. Access Board’s accessible-route guidance, written for public buildings, gives a 36 inch minimum continuous clear width for a route; treat it only as a rough yardstick at home.

  • Seats: the circumference of a 21.7 inch round is 21.7 × 3.1416 = 68.2 inches, 68.2 ÷ 24 = 2.8, so two people. A 30 inch round is 94.2 inches, 94.2 ÷ 24 = 3.9, so three comfortably or four tightly, and the listing says up to 3.
  • Floor area: 21.7 inch round, π × 10.85² = 370 square inches, 2.6 square feet; with stools pulled out, (21.7 + 48) × (21.7 + 48) = 4,858 square inches, 33.7 square feet. A 30 inch round: 707 square inches, 4.9 square feet; with stools, (30 + 48)² = 6,084 square inches, 42.3 square feet.
  • In a 72 by 72 inch corner (36 square feet): the 21.7 inch table’s zone of 33.7 square feet fits with 2.3 square feet to spare; the 30 inch table’s 42.3 square feet does not.
  • Clearance on a 96 inch wide wall: the 21.7 inch table centered leaves (96 − 21.7) ÷ 2 = 37.2 inches each side, clearing the 36 inch yardstick but not the stool; the 30 inch leaves 33 inches each side.

So for a small corner choose the 21.7 inch round and two stools. The 30 inch round suits an open room.

Strength and stability

The Flash table is rated 176 pounds and weighs 20 pounds; each HOOBRO table is rated 88 pounds and weighs 13.6 to 16 pounds. A light, tall table is easy to tip. Height divided by top diameter is our rough indicator, not a standard: Flash at 42 inches, 42 ÷ 30 = 1.4; HOOBRO at 35.4, 35.4 ÷ 21.7 = 1.6; HOOBRO at 35, 35 ÷ 21.7 = 1.6. The HOOBRO tables have a circular wide base or trumpet base, which the listings say provide stability; the Flash has fixed floor glides on an aluminum base. Do not lean or sit on the table’s edge, and keep heavy items near the center. 88 pounds is a plate, a laptop and a couple of drinks, not a person.

Adjustable height: how it works and what it does to stability

The adjustable HOOBRO lists a lifter under the top that moves the table from 27 to 35.4 inches. At 27 inches it is a coffee or side table; at 35.4 a pub table. A lifter adds a joint, so check that it locks securely at each height, and do not use the table at its full height with a heavy load. The Flash table swaps a 30 inch column for a 42 inch one, which means two table heights, not a continuous range.

Materials and care

The HOOBRO tables are particleboard with a metal base. Composite wood products, including particleboard, are covered by the EPA’s formaldehyde emission standards, and a compliance label may be present; the listings do not state one in the text we read. The Flash top is birchwood with a PVC edge. Wipe the HOOBRO tops with a damp cloth; for the Flash, the care row says to use a solvent-based cleaner and no water, so follow the maker’s care instructions.

Assembly and setup

All three need assembly. The HOOBRO listings say assembly takes one person with a screwdriver and clear instructions, and the adjustable one says necessary tools are included. Level the table with its feet or glides, and tighten the fasteners after the first month. A small round table is easy to knock, so keep it out of a main walkway.

Using one at home

A tall round table suits a balcony, a window nook or the end of a counter, where it works as a breakfast spot, a plant stand or a place to work standing. Put it where light and a socket are close, because a laptop at a 35 inch table is more comfortable standing than sitting on a low chair. If you stand at it, OSHA’s workstation guidance suggests elbows bent between 90 and 120 degrees with forearms roughly parallel to the floor, which at 35 to 42 inches suits a taller person standing and a shorter person perched on a stool.

Add a footrest or choose stools with one, since feet that dangle tire the legs. A small rug under a round table helps stools stay put, and felt pads under the base protect the floor. When you are done, tuck stools under the table to free the walkway; the narrow 21.7 inch top lets two stools nest.

Which one for which job

  • Flash Lars 30 inch: the only one at true bar height, with the highest stated load of 176 pounds; best for events or a game room.
  • HOOBRO adjustable: a 21.7 inch table that goes from 27 to 35.4 inches; best where the table does two jobs.
  • HOOBRO 35 inch: a fixed counter-height table with a trumpet base; best for a narrow nook or balcony.

How to choose

  1. Decide: counter (35 to 40 inches) or true bar height (41 to 43).
  2. Match the stool seat height to the range, and check the gap.
  3. Compute seats and the floor zone.
  4. Check the stated load and weight.
  5. Keep the table out of a walkway, since it is light and easy to knock.
