What the Thuma page says
The page lists the Classic Bed in configurations with a headboard, a headboard and cushion, a pillowboard or frame only, and in sizes twin, twin XL, full, queen, king and California king. Its product features say exposed Japanese joinery creates a strong, sturdy foundation, the bed sets up in minutes with no tools as precision pieces slide into place, the wood is solid and upcycled with a protective finish resistant to stains, scratches and moisture, and the frame is hardware-free with cushion-coated slats for silent support. We have not verified these claims.
We do not quote the price. It is higher than the Amazon beds below, and it includes a trial and a warranty that they may not.
What “Japanese joinery” means in a bed
Joinery is how wood pieces connect without screws or glue, by cutting them to interlock. Our japanese joinery bed frame guide explains what a listing should show if it uses the term. The Nectar bamboo queen listing we read for our bed upholstered guide says it uses traditional Japanese joinery with tool-free assembly, which is the same claim in a bamboo frame; we did not read that text on the natural version below.
Worked example: height, weight and fit
This is our own arithmetic, from the Amazon listings.
- Height. The Nectar bed lists a 12 inch height in its title; with a 10 inch mattress the top is 22 inches. The DobleePy floor bed is 7.68 inches, with the top at 17.68 inches. The RUNSUNSPRI base is 0.8 inch, with the top at 10.8 inches.
- Footprint. The DobleePy queen at 81.1 by 61.42 inches is 4,981 square inches, or 34.6 square feet, against 33.3 square feet of mattress, and it is 1.42 inches wider than a 60 inch mattress.
- Weight. The DobleePy weighs 59.8 pounds and the RUNSUNSPRI base 36.4 pounds; the Nectar page states no weight in the text we read.

Best for: floor sleeping or a base. Watch out: it is a base, not a bed with legs, and is 2 inches narrower than a queen mattress.

Decide what you value. The Thuma page stresses joinery, certification, a warranty and a trial. The Amazon beds give lower heights and different materials.
Check the warranty and returns. The Thuma page states a lifetime warranty and a 30 day trial; the Amazon listings we read state neither.
Check the size and weight. Two of the three Amazon listings give them.
Do not assume equivalence. A similar look is not the same wood, finish or build.

When the brand matters and when it does not
If you want a bed with a stated trial period, a lifetime warranty and certification, those come with the brand’s own page; the Amazon listings do not state them. If you want a low platform bed with a Japanese look and care more about the size and weight you can verify, the Amazon listings with clear numbers, such as the DobleePy, do that job at a different level. We have not tested either, so we make no claim about which lasts longer.
Setting up a floor-level bed
A low bed in the Thuma or DobleePy style sits close to the floor, so it works best on a clean, dry, flat floor. A rug under it can hide the floor, but it can also hold dust. If you choose a floor bed, think about getting up from it, since the top of the mattress is about 17 to 22 inches from the floor in the examples above.
Mistakes to avoid
