Quick answer
If you have a platform or storage bed with an open interior, the number that decides whether a base fits is the base’s outer size against the inside of your frame. The Nestl king base is 74 wide by 79 long by 15 high (850 pounds), the Best Choice queen is 59 by 80 by 14.25 (750 pounds, 137 pounds) and the Sven and Son full is 54 by 75 with a 25 inch height on the page for the whole bundle. None of the pages gives you the frame’s inside dimensions or the height your frame needs; measure both and ask the seller before you buy.

Nestl 2nd Gen King Adjustable Bed Frame
The bullets say the king base measures 74 inches wide by 79 inches long by 15 inches high and holds 850 pounds, with the mattress not included. They add that the “zero clearance design works with many platform frame setups”, along with one-touch zero gravity, anti-snore, TV, lounge and flat presets, three massage modes with timers, USB ports and under-bed LED lighting. A king mattress is 76 by 80 inches by the Amerisleep chart, so this base is 2 inches narrower and 1 inch shorter than the mattress. That is our arithmetic.
Best Choice Products Ergonomic Queen Adjustable Bed Frame
The table gives 80 by 59 by 14.25 inches, a 750 pound limit and a 137 pound item weight. The bullets note that a king version comes with two platforms and two remotes, and describe TV, head-tilt and zero gravity presets, wave, pulse and constant massage and a remote flashlight. A queen mattress is 60 by 80 inches, so the base is 1 inch narrower and equal in length, again our arithmetic. The page does not say whether it fits inside a frame.
Sven & Son Harmony Adjustable Base, Full, with 10 Inch Memory Foam Mattress
The table shows 75 by 54 by 25 inches, 217 pounds and a 750 pound capacity, in a bundle with a 10 inch firm memory foam mattress. Because the bundle includes the mattress, the 25 inch height is not the base’s height; our guess, from the 15 inch figures on the other pages, is a base around 15 inches and a mattress of 10, but the page does not say so. The bullets describe a head lift up to 75 degrees, a foot lift up to 45 degrees, head tilting, massage, under-bed lighting and USB ports. The “zero gravity” in the title is a preset position, not a clearance feature, which is a common confusion.
What “zero clearance” probably means, and what to do about it
The Nestl page uses the phrase without defining it. The usual reading in bed-base listings is that the base is designed to sit close to a surrounding frame or wall without the legs or motor housing in the way, but that is our interpretation, not the seller’s. For a storage bed, three measurements decide the question:
- The inside width and length of the frame, compared with the base’s outer size. A base that is 2 inches narrower than the mattress, like the Nestl, needs a frame with an inside width of at least 74 inches plus a margin for the base to rise without catching.
- The depth of the frame’s ledge or support, since the base’s height of 14 to 15 inches must go in without lifting the mattress too high.
- Where the motor and the power cable sit. The pages do not show this in text.
Worked example: height of the bed with a base in a frame
This is our own arithmetic. We assume a 10 inch mattress and that the base sits on the floor inside a platform frame whose sides are 8 inches high.
| Base | Base height | Top of mattress | Above the frame’s sides (8 in) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nestl king | 15 in | 25 in | 17 in |
| Best Choice queen | 14.25 in | 24.25 in | 16.25 in |
If the frame instead holds the base on a ledge, the heights change by the depth of the ledge. The point is that an adjustable base has its own height, and putting it inside a frame does not hide it; the mattress will sit well above the frame’s sides, which may look odd with a low-sided frame. Our bed frames for sleep number beds guide has the same issue with a motorized bed.
Frames that suit a base
The frames that suit a motorized base have an open interior and no center rail that blocks the motor. Our king platform bedframe and adjustable mattress base guides discuss several. Slatted platform beds with a solid deck are less suitable, because the base cannot sit flat and the legs may poke through slats.
A worked scenario: a king platform with a ledge
This is our own arithmetic and an example frame, since none of the pages describes one. Suppose a king platform bed has an interior of 76 by 80 inches and a ledge 6 inches below the top of the sides. The Nestl base is 74 inches wide and 79 inches long, so it would sit inside with 2 inches of width and 1 inch of length to spare, a tight fit that leaves 1 inch a side. If the base sits on the floor and the frame’s sides are 12 inches high, the base’s 15 inch height rises 3 inches above the sides, and the mattress on top rises a further 10. If the base sits on the 6 inch ledge, it rises 15 – 6 = 9 inches above the sides. The sums show that whether the base looks sunk into the frame or perched on it depends on where it rests, and that a ledge brings the mattress higher.
Questions to ask the seller before you order
- What is the base’s footprint without the mattress and with its legs?
- Where do the motor and the power cable sit, and how far do they extend?
- Can the base sit on the floor, or does it need legs of a certain height?
- Does the head section move toward the wall, or is it a wall-hugging design?
- Does the maker publish a list of compatible frames?
Mistakes to avoid
Assuming “zero gravity” means “zero clearance”. One is a position, the other is a design claim.
Using a bundle’s height as the base height. The Sven and Son 25 inches includes a mattress.
Skipping the measurements. The pages give outer sizes; you need your frame’s inside size.
Forgetting the motor and cable. Where they sit matters in a tight frame.
Frequently asked questions
What is a zero clearance adjustable base?
The Nestl page says its design “works with many platform frame setups” and does not define the term. Treat it as a seller’s claim and measure.
Will an adjustable base fit in a storage bed?
Only if the frame’s inside size and height allow it. The pages give outer sizes.
How tall are these bases?
14.25 and 15 inches on the Best Choice and Nestl pages.
How much weight can they hold?
850 pounds for the Nestl king, 750 for the other two.
Do I need a special mattress?
A mattress that flexes. Check your maker’s guide.
