Quick answer
A Murphy bed with a desk is a bed that folds into a cabinet whose front or top is a work surface. It sounds like two products in one footprint, and it can be. The risk is that the desk is smaller or higher than a normal desk, so check three things: desktop depth, desktop height and what the bed and the desk can each carry.

We read three on Amazon on 2026-10-01: the KEIKI queen vertical cabinet bed with an integrated desk, the Maykoosh full Murphy bed desk and the HomeStock full Murphy bed desk. The last two have nearly the same text. We have not tested any of them. Every figure comes from the listings, and where a listing contradicts itself we say so.
Three listings, side by side
| Listing | Bed | Closed size | Open size | Desk | Load stated | Buy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| KEIKI Queen Vertical Cabinet Murphy Bed with Integrated Desk | queen, vertical | 64.96 x 15.75 x 85.04 in (L x W x H as listed) | not stated | integrated, size not stated | 1,102 lb when wall-mounted | View on Amazon |

| HomeStock Full Murphy Bed Desk with 6″ Mattress and Charger | full, folding | 35.13 L x 55.13 W x 43 H in | not stated in text we read | 54.38 x 13.38 in | 800 lb | View on Amazon |
Contradictions to know about. The Maykoosh listing says its wood frame supports up to 800 pounds in its bullets, while its details table says a maximum weight capacity of 275 pounds. Both cannot be right; plan for the lower number until the seller confirms. The HomeStock page repeats the same dimensions and the 800 pound figure and does not show a table value. The KEIKI listing says the bed must be anchored to a structural wall by a qualified professional, with 2 to 4 adults recommended for installation, and not attached directly to drywall. It does not give the desk size in the text we read.
Desk depth: 13.38 inches is shallow
The Maykoosh and HomeStock desktops are 54.38 inches wide and 13.38 inches deep. That is 54.38 × 13.38 = 728 square inches, about 5.1 square feet. For comparison, the top of a small office desk is often 24 inches deep, though that is our assumption, not a standard.
OSHA’s computer workstation guidance says to put the monitor directly in front of you and at least 20 inches away, with the top line of the screen at or below eye level. On a 13.38 inch deep surface, the screen sits close to the front edge. If your eyes are about 10 inches behind the front edge when you sit up to the desk, which is our assumption, a monitor at the back of the surface is 10 + 13.38 = 23.4 inches away at most, and a monitor at the front is closer than 20. So a monitor is only just workable and a laptop is more natural. If you want a large screen, ask the seller about the desk’s true depth, or use a monitor arm that clamps to the surface, if the build allows it.
Desk height
The closed height of the Maykoosh and HomeStock units is 43 inches. The listings do not give the desktop height. A normal sitting desk is about 28 to 30 inches high; our guide to what height a desk should be explains why. OSHA says elbows should be bent between 90 and 120 degrees with forearms roughly parallel to the floor. If the work surface is at the unit’s 43 inch top, it is a standing-height surface, and sitting at it would need a tall stool. Ask where the working surface sits and whether it is a drop-down panel. Do not buy until you know.
Fit check: a 10 by 10 foot room
The room is 120 by 120 inches. You want the desk at one wall and the bed to open without hitting anything.
- Maykoosh or HomeStock, closed: 35.13 × 55.13 = 1,937 square inches, 13.4 square feet. Open: 74.75 × 55.13 = 4,121 square inches, 28.6 square feet. Opening doubles the floor use: 28.6 ÷ 13.4 = 2.1.
- Floor left when open: the unit’s 74.75 inch length along a 120 inch depth leaves 120 − 74.75 = 45.25 inches. A rule of thumb for a walking route is 30 inches, so there is 15 inches of margin. Along the 120 inch wall, 55.13 inches of unit leaves 64.9 inches.
- KEIKI queen, closed: 64.96 × 15.75 = 1,023 square inches, 7.1 square feet, 85.04 inches high. In an 8 foot room, 96 − 85.04 = 10.96 inches of ceiling is left. A queen mattress is about 80 inches long, so the open bed reaches at least 80 inches from the wall, by our assumption. 120 − 80 = 40 inches of floor remains.
Load: suppose two adults at 360 pounds, a mattress of 60 pounds and a laptop and a lamp of 15 pounds. That is 435 pounds. Against 800 pounds that is 54 percent; against 275 pounds it is 158 percent, over the limit. This is why the 800 versus 275 contradiction matters. The KEIKI’s 1,102 pounds is 39 percent, but it applies only when wall-mounted and correctly assembled.
The wall
The KEIKI needs a structural wall. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s Anchor It! campaign is a public education campaign to prevent furniture and TV tip-overs from killing and seriously injuring children. A Murphy bed is a heavy piece that moves, so anchoring is the key safety step. The Maykoosh and HomeStock listings do not say whether they need wall anchoring in the text we read; ask.
Mattress, power and comfort
All three include or support a 6 inch mattress or a queen mattress. The Maykoosh text describes gel-infused memory foam, and the HomeStock a supportive base topped with pressure-relieving foam. Both list a charging station with two USB ports and a nine-foot cord. The KEIKI lists 26 multilayer wood slats, a two-stage hydraulic assist and a mattress strap, so no box spring is needed.
Working at it: posture, light and cables
A fold-away desk is often a part-time workstation, so set it up for short sessions that you can repeat easily. Keep the screen directly in front of you rather than off to one side, as OSHA advises, and place it perpendicular to a window to avoid glare. Use a laptop stand or a few books to bring the screen up to eye level, and a separate keyboard so your hands can stay at a comfortable height. A 13.38 inch depth leaves room for a laptop and a notebook but not for a laptop, a keyboard and a mouse pad at once, so measure the gear you use.
Cables matter because the bed folds. Both full-size listings describe a charging station with two USB ports and a nine-foot cord, which is convenient, but the cord and anything plugged into it must be clear of the mechanism when the bed opens. Clear the desk before you open the bed, every time. Anything left on the work surface may slide or fall when it tilts, which the listings do not address in the text we read.
Daily routine and storage
Think through the daily switch. If the desk folds into the bed, a lamp, a laptop and papers must come off before the bed opens, and go back after. That is fine for a guest room used a few nights a month and tiresome for a bed used daily. If you sleep there every night, a desk that folds away may mean breaking down your work setup each evening and rebuilding it each morning. A better plan for daily sleepers may be a separate small desk and a bed with a drawer. Ask yourself how often the room will change roles, and choose the unit that matches.
Which one suits which room
- KEIKI queen: the biggest bed and the strongest stated load, but it needs a professional install on a structural wall and does not state the desk size.
- Maykoosh and HomeStock full: self-contained desk-chests with a shallow top. Easiest to place, but check the weight rating and the desk height.
See our Murphy bed guide and computer desks for small spaces.
How to choose
- Decide how much you will work at it: a laptop for an hour or a monitor for eight.
- Get the desktop height and depth from the seller.
- Resolve the weight limit.
- Measure the open length and the walking space left.
- If it mounts to a wall, plan for studs and a pro.
Frequently asked questions
Is a Murphy bed desk good for working?
For a laptop, maybe. The two full-size units have a 13.38 inch deep top, shallow for a monitor.
How far should a monitor be?
OSHA says at least 20 inches away and the top of the screen at or below eye level.
How much weight can it hold?
The listings say 800 pounds for the Maykoosh and HomeStock in bullets (275 in one table) and 1,102 pounds for the wall-mounted KEIKI.
Does it need wall mounting?
The KEIKI does. Ask about the other two.
Can I use a thicker mattress?
The two full units come with a 6 inch mattress. For the KEIKI the thickness limit is not stated; ask.
