As our own planning estimate, not a standard, a seat about 10 to 12 inches below the tabletop suits a typical table. The listings give a seat height of 18.7 inches for the LZMS chair and 17.7 inches for the Roundhill chair. On a 30 inch table that leaves 30 − 18.7 = 11.3 inches and 30 − 17.7 = 12.3 inches.

A worked example

These numbers are invented. A table is 30 inches high and 60 inches long. You want four chairs, two on each long side.
