Quick answer
The Modway Loryn is 85.5 by 63.5 by 13 inches, faux leather, with a reinforced center rail with support legs and a headboard sold separately. The Offex bed is 85.25 by 64.25 by 45.75 inches, leather-look in brown, needs a box spring and includes wooden slats to support one, and its table lists a maximum weight recommendation of 52 pounds, which cannot be right for a bed. The Fast Furnishings black bed lists faux leather and queen and gives no size in the text we read. Faux leather is a covering, so the structure beneath is wood or MDF.

What faux leather is, and is not
A faux leather or leather-look cover is a synthetic material. The Modway table’s color row reads “White Vinyl”, which is a plain statement of what the cover is. It wipes clean, which is the reason people choose it, and we have no source on how long any of these covers last, so we make no claim about that. The structure under the cover matters more: the Modway lists a wood frame and legs, the Offex solid wood feet with MDF.
Worked example: height, room and support
This is our own arithmetic.
- Height. The Modway at 13 inches is a low bed: with a 10 inch mattress the top is 23 inches. The Offex’s 45.75 inches is the overall height with its headboard.
- Width. The Modway is 63.5 inches wide and the Offex 64.25, 3.5 and 4.25 inches wider than a 60 inch queen mattress.
- Wall. In an 8 foot (96 inch) room, a 45.75 inch headboard leaves 96 minus 45.75, which is 50.25 inches of wall above it.
- Box spring. The Offex needs a box spring. If the box spring is 9 inches (an assumption) and the mattress 10, the top of the bed is above the slat level by 19 inches; the listing does not give the slat height.
- Weight rating. A rating of 52 pounds for a bed is below the weight of one adult and is plainly a listing error. Ask the seller for the real figure; a bed frame for two adults should state a rating well above 430 pounds, our example (an 80 pound mattress plus two adults of 350 pounds).
What the listings say
Modway Loryn Faux Leather Queen Platform Bed Frame with Wood Slat Support, White (ASIN B0794SV5YC). The table gives wood, 85.5 by 63.5 by 13 inches and white vinyl. The bullets say a mid-century style on round splayed legs, a smooth faux leather covered frame, a sturdy wood frame and legs with a reinforced center rail with support legs and a headboard that you can pair from a list of matching Modway styles, with memory foam, innerspring and latex mattresses accommodated. Best for: a low upholstered bed that takes a separate headboard. Watch out: the headboard is not included.
Offex Contemporary Queen Size Leather-Look Upholstered Bed Frame, Brown (ASIN B08D3DLVJR). The table gives foam, MDF, plastic, solid wood and leather-look, 85.25 by 64.25 by 45.75 inches and a maximum weight recommendation of 52 pounds. The bullets say a contemporary style, black solid wood block feet, a requirement for a standard queen box spring and mattress, wooden slats to support the box spring and an easy-care dark brown leather-look fabric. Best for: a bed with a tall headboard if you own a box spring. Watch out: the 52 pound rating and the box spring requirement.
Fast Furnishings Queen Modern Black Faux Leather Upholstered Platform Bed Frame with Headboard (ASIN B0BS9MVNMC). The table gives faux leather, black and queen compatibility. The text we read gives no dimensions, weight or rating. Best for: nothing until the seller supplies a size and a rating. Watch out: a listing this thin gives you nothing to plan with.
How the three compare
| Listing | Size (L × W × H) | Headboard | Box spring | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Modway Loryn | 85.5 × 63.5 × 13 in | Sold separately | Wood slats, none stated | Not stated |
| Offex | 85.25 × 64.25 × 45.75 in | Included | Required | 52 lb (error) |
| Fast Furnishings | Not stated | Included (title) | Not stated | Not stated |
How to choose
Decide on the headboard. The Modway needs a separate one; the Offex includes a tall one.
Check the foundation. A box spring requirement adds height and cost.
Check the rating. A listing with a rating below one adult is a question for the seller.
Check the care. Ask how to clean the cover and what to avoid.
Care and cleaning
Faux leather is wiped, which is why people choose it. The Offex listing calls the fabric easy-care. We have no source on how the covers wear, so we suggest a few general habits: wipe spills quickly, avoid sharp objects on the surface and check the care label for what cleaners to avoid. If the cover is on a headboard that you lean against, the surface near your head gets the most contact. Ask the seller for the care instructions before you order.
Questions for the seller
Ask for the weight rating in pounds, since the Offex table says 52. Ask whether the headboard of the Modway is sold separately and which model fits. Ask the Fast Furnishings seller for the assembled size, the weight and the rating. Ask each whether the slats are wood or steel, how many there are and whether there is a center support, since the listings say little. A seller who answers clearly is more likely to stand behind the product.
A scenario: a guest room
A guest room bed is used a few nights a month, and a leather-look cover is easy to wipe between visits. A low bed like the Modway Loryn, at 13 inches, is easy to get into and takes less visual space; its headboard, bought separately, can be chosen to match. A tall-headboard bed like the Offex gives a back to lean on, but it needs a box spring, which adds cost and height. For a guest room, the low bed with a separate headboard is the more flexible choice.
Mistakes to avoid
Assuming a leather-look cover is leather. It is vinyl or a synthetic.
Ignoring the box spring. The Offex needs one.
Buying from a thin listing. The Fast Furnishings page gives no size.
Trusting a 52 pound rating. Ask for the real number.
When a different bed is better
For upholstered beds with fabric, see bed upholstered and tufted upholstered platform bed. For a plain platform frame, see queen bed with platform. For black upholstered beds, see queen black upholstered bed.
If you are on the fence, compare the cost of ownership rather than the look. A bed that needs a box spring costs a box spring; a bed that has no headboard costs a headboard; a bed whose listing gives no size costs time. The Modway Loryn needs a headboard and no box spring, the Offex needs a box spring and includes a headboard, and the Fast Furnishings gives too little to compare. Add up what each needs, then choose.
Another angle is replacement. If the cover is damaged, can you replace it? The listings do not say. A bed with a removable cover, like the Cloud Frame in our queen black upholstered bed guide, lets you wash or replace it; a fixed cover does not. Ask whether the cover is removable and whether the seller sells spares.
If you are buying for a rental, a leather-look bed is easy to wipe and does not hold dust the way a tufted fabric does. Check the lease for rules about furniture, and keep the packaging for the move. A frame that comes apart again is easier to move than one that is glued or stapled, which the listings do not say.
Finally, think about who will use the bed. A guest, a teenager and a couple have different needs for height, headboard and rating, and a faux leather finish suits some better than others. Decide the user first, then check the numbers.
