An entryway tree is a freestanding stand with hooks for coats and bags, and it needs no wall mounting, which makes it a good fit for a rental entry. The slim coat tree takes the least floor, at 11.4 by 11.4 inches at the base and 67 inches tall. The three compared here are that slim metal coat tree, a bamboo hall tree (31.5 by 11.8 inches, 70.87 inches tall) and a hall tree with a bench (28.3 by 13.3 inches, 72.1 inches tall). Measure the wall, the depth of the hall and the ceiling before you pick, and use the worked example below.

What an entryway tree does
It gives your coats, bags and hats one home near the door instead of on the sofa or the doorknob. A tree with a bench also gives you a seat for shoes, and a tree with a shelf holds the shoes themselves. Because it stands on the floor, you can move it or take it with you.
An entryway tree is not a wardrobe. It holds what you wear this week. Out-of-season coats go in a closet. And a tall, narrow tree can tip if you hang too much on one side, so it is a place for daily items, not for heavy winter gear.
The three entryway trees we compare
Tujurich metal coat tree with sintered stone base
The Tujurich coat tree is listed at 11.4 inches deep, 11.4 inches wide and 67 inches tall, in black metal, weighing 5.7 pounds. The listing says it has 8 hooks, three adjustable heights, a sintered stone base for stability and a sponge pad that protects floors, and that it assembles by screwing tubes together. It has no bench and no shelf, and the listing does not give a weight capacity in the listing data, only a phrase about a high capacity, so check the listing. It is the slimmest of the three, which suits a narrow entry.
Welfuturer bamboo hall tree with bench
The Welfuturer hall tree is listed at 31.5 inches wide, 11.8 inches deep and 70.87 inches tall, in walnut-finish bamboo, weighing 16.2 pounds, with 3 shelves. The bullets say it has 13 hooks, a hanging rail and a three-tier shoe rack that holds up to 16 pairs of shoes. The shape field says L-shape. The listing does not give a load rating in the listing data, so check it. It is the one with the most hooks and shoe storage.
VASAGLE hall tree with shoe bench
The VASAGLE hall tree is listed at 13.3 inches deep, 28.3 inches wide and 72.1 inches tall, in steel and engineered wood, weighing 21.8 pounds, with 2 shelves. The load field gives 22 pounds for the hanging rod, 6.6 pounds per hook and 198 pounds for the bench. The bullets say it has 9 removable hooks in two rows, a hanging rod, a shoe bench and rack and an anti-tip kit. It is the heaviest and the only one of the three with a full set of listed loads.
Size: depth, width and height
Depth
Depth decides how much of the hall the tree uses. The three are 11.4, 11.8 and 13.3 inches deep, so the difference between the slimmest and the deepest is 13.3 minus 11.4, which equals 1.9 inches. Almost two inches matters in a narrow entry.
Width
The width ranges from 11.4 to 31.5 inches. A narrow tree can sit beside a door; a wider one needs a stretch of wall.
Height
All three are between 67 and 72.1 inches tall. Check the ceiling height and any lights or sloped ceilings above the spot, because a tall tree with hooks at the top will stick out into the space.
Hooks and load
Hooks are the point of the tree. The Welfuturer lists 13, the VASAGLE 9 and the Tujurich 8. More hooks do not mean more capacity. The VASAGLE gives a number: 6.6 pounds per hook and 22 pounds on the rod. A heavy winter coat adds up quickly on one hook, so spread the load rather than putting every coat on one side. For the others, check the listing for a load limit.
A tree that holds a weight on its hooks, rod and bench at once is more likely to tip than a short one. The VASAGLE’s anti-tip kit is listed in its bullets; check how it attaches, and use any similar kit that comes with other trees.
Bench or no bench
A bench makes a tree wider and deeper. If you only need hooks, a slim coat tree like the Tujurich takes a fraction of the floor. If you need to sit to put on shoes, a bench tree saves a separate stool. The bench loads differ: the VASAGLE lists 198 pounds. For the Welfuturer, check the listing.
Shoe storage matters too. The Welfuturer bullets say 16 pairs on the three-tier rack, and the VASAGLE has a rack and a bench below it. If you need more shoe room than that, add a shoe cabinet elsewhere.
Materials
The Tujurich is metal with a stone base. The Welfuturer is bamboo, which the listing calls water-resistant and easy to clean. The VASAGLE is steel and particleboard. Particleboard and bamboo should stay dry, so put a mat under wet boots. The metal tree is the easiest to wipe clean.
Worked example: an entry with an 84 inch wall, a 54 inch hall and a 96 inch ceiling
The entry has one wall 84 inches long. The hall is 54 inches wide wall to wall. The ceiling is 96 inches high. We check each direction separately.
Along the wall (length 84 in):
- Tujurich, 11.4 in wide. 84 in minus 11.4 in equals 72.6 in of wall left.
- VASAGLE, 28.3 in wide. 84 in minus 28.3 in equals 55.7 in of wall left.
- Welfuturer, 31.5 in wide. 84 in minus 31.5 in equals 52.5 in of wall left.
Those are totals. If you center the tree, divide by 2: the Tujurich leaves 72.6 in divided by 2, which equals 36.3 in on each side; the VASAGLE leaves 55.7 in divided by 2, which equals 27.85 in on each side; the Welfuturer leaves 52.5 in divided by 2, which equals 26.25 in on each side.
Across the hall (width 54 in):
- Welfuturer, 11.8 in deep. 54 in minus 11.8 in equals 42.2 in left.
- Tujurich, 11.4 in deep. 54 in minus 11.4 in equals 42.6 in left.
- VASAGLE, 13.3 in deep. 54 in minus 13.3 in equals 40.7 in left.
All three leave more than 36 in, which we use as a planning yardstick for a daily path. The tightest is the VASAGLE at 40.7 in, and 40.7 in minus 36 in equals 4.7 in to spare. A coat hanging from a hook adds some depth, so the real path is narrower once the tree is full.
Up the wall (ceiling 96 in):
- VASAGLE, 72.1 in tall. 96 in minus 72.1 in equals 23.9 in of space above.
- Welfuturer, 70.87 in tall. 96 in minus 70.87 in equals 25.13 in above.
- Tujurich, 67 in tall. 96 in minus 67 in equals 29 in above.
All of them fit under a 96 in ceiling with room to spare.
Placement and safety
Do not put the tree where an inward-opening door will hit it. Open the door fully with a tape measure in hand. Keep the area around the tree free of loose rugs. Hang heavier items on the lower hooks and on the side nearest the wall, and keep the tree against the wall when you can. If you have small children, check the anti-tip details in the listing and keep heavy bags off the upper hooks.
Who should buy an entryway tree
- Renters who cannot drill into walls.
- Apartment residents with no front closet.
- Families who want one place for coats and bags.
Who should skip it
- Anyone with a very narrow hall. Even a slim tree takes about 11 inches.
- Owners of heavy winter coats. Check the hook load first.
- People who need closed storage. These are open frames.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Measuring the wall but not the hall width. Subtract the depth from the hall.
- Hanging everything on one side. It raises the chance of tipping.
- Ignoring the door swing. The door must clear the tree.
- Choosing hooks over capacity. More hooks do not mean more load.
Checklist before you buy
- Measure the wall, the hall width and the ceiling.
- Subtract the tree depth from the hall width.
- Compare with 36 inches.
- Decide between a bench tree and a slim coat tree.
- Check the listed hook and bench loads.

Frequently asked questions
How wide is an entryway tree?
The three here are 11.4, 28.3 and 31.5 inches wide. Slim coat trees are the narrowest, and bench trees are the widest.
How tall should an entryway tree be?
The ones here are 67 to 72.1 inches. Check your ceiling, and remember that hooks near the top hold the longest coats.
How much weight can an entryway tree hold?
The VASAGLE lists 6.6 pounds per hook, 22 pounds on the rod and 198 pounds on the bench. For the others, check the listing.
Do entryway trees tip over?
Tall freestanding trees can tip if heavily loaded on one side. A heavy base or an anti-tip kit helps; check what each listing includes.
Is a bench tree worth the extra floor space?
Only if you need a seat or shoe storage. A slim coat tree takes about 11 inches in each direction.
