Quick answer

A booth style dining table is a table with built-in bench seating, usually in a corner, so you slide in rather than pull out chairs. It saves aisle space around the seats but takes a large block of floor: the corner booth we read on Amazon on 2026-10-01 measures 68 by 68 inches, which is 4,624 square inches, about 32 square feet, before you add a walkway. It includes four pieces: two fixed benches, a table and a loose bench. We also read a bench-and-chairs set and a compact three-piece table to show what you can do in less space. We have not tested any of them; every number comes from the listings, and where a listing contradicts itself we say so. The National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) recommends a walkway of at least 36 inches and plans 24 inches of width per seated diner.

Contradictions to know about. The OS Home listing writes the single-side bench’s height as “33.46 inches deep”, which is a typo, since the same height appears for the double bench. The booth’s “Item depth 25.20 inches” is the table’s depth, not the booth’s, and the booth’s overall footprint is the 68 by 68 inch figure. The HOOBRO listing’s variant row shows heights of 17.9, 18.1, 18.3 and 29.5 inches, so make sure you pick the 29.5 inch table. We note the East West and HOOBRO products are not true booths; they are alternatives.

How many people a corner booth seats

Using the NKBA’s 24 inches per diner:

  • Double-side bench, 64.80 inches wide: 64.80 ÷ 24 = 2.7, so 2 comfortable places, and a third in a squeeze.
  • Single-side bench, 49.84 inches: 49.84 ÷ 24 = 2.08, so 2 places.
  • Loose bench, 40.55 inches, on the open side: 40.55 ÷ 24 = 1.7, so 1 comfortable, 2 close together.

The comfortable total is 2 + 2 + 1 = 5, and 6 with squeezing. The table itself is 43.31 inches long and 25.20 inches deep, so the diners along its two long sides share 43.31 inches each: a long side seats 43.31 ÷ 24 = 1.8, which is 1 or 2. That means the benches seat more people than the table has edge for, so some diners sit at the table’s end or at an angle. For four people the table is generous; for six it is tight.

Knee room

At a 30 inch high table the NKBA asks for a knee space 18 inches deep. The booth table is 28.90 inches high and 25.20 inches deep; the bench seats are 19.92 inches deep. The listing does not state how far the table sits from the seat front, so measure that after assembly. If the table is pushed to the booth’s back wall, the distance from the table edge to the seat front on the 64.80 inch bench is roughly what you adjust by sliding. Our estimate, not a standard: leave at least 10 to 12 inches between the table edge and your stomach for comfortable eating.

Floor space and walkways

The booth’s 68 by 68 inch footprint sits in a corner against two walls, which leaves two open edges. The NKBA recommends a walkway at least 36 inches wide and 44 inches if people must walk past seated diners. A 68 inch booth in a corner then needs:

  • 68 + 36 = 104 inches in each direction if you only need a basic walkway.
  • 68 + 44 = 112 inches in each direction if people walk behind the open-side diners.

That is 104 x 104 = 10,816 square inches, or 75.1 square feet, for a corner area, or 112 x 112 = 12,544 square inches, 87.1 square feet, with the larger clearance. If the corner of your kitchen is smaller than about 104 inches each way, a full booth will not fit. A booth sized down to a bench on two sides is the realistic alternative.

Why a booth feels roomier

A chair has to be pulled back from the table to sit down, which is why the NKBA asks for 32 inches or more behind seating; on a booth bench you slide in from the side, so the corner that would otherwise be dead space does the work and the rest of the floor stays open. For a small kitchen, that is the real appeal: the table can be pushed against the wall.

A worked example: a 110 by 100 inch kitchen corner

The room has a 110 inch wall and a 100 inch wall at the corner.

  • Corner booth 68 x 68: along the 110 inch wall, 110 − 68 = 42 inches of free wall remains; along the 100 inch wall, 100 − 68 = 32 inches remains. The 32 inch free length is below the 36 inch walkway, so the passage along the 100 inch side is tight.
  • East West 60 x 36 table with chairs and a bench: it needs the table plus pull-out. Using 32 inches behind the chairs per the NKBA, the width is 36 + 2 x 32 = 100 inches across, and the length is 60 + 64 = 124 inches, which exceeds 110 inches, so it does not fit with chairs at the ends.
  • HOOBRO 31.5 x 23.6 table with stools: 31.5 + 64 = 95.5 by 23.6 + 64 = 87.6 inches, which fits easily.

In a corner of this size, the booth is a squeeze and the HOOBRO set is the comfortable fit.

Solid pine, MDF or metal

The OS Home booth is described as solid pine, in distressed white with an antique honey brown top. Solid pine is softer than hardwoods and dents easily, which suits a distressed finish. The East West set is wood; the HOOBRO set is particleboard and metal. The listings do not state finishes or certifications in the rows we read. At 110 pounds, the booth is heavy and will be hard to move after assembly, so position it before screwing the pieces together.

Storage and extras

The OS Home booth lists one drawer. That can hold cutlery, napkins or placemats. If you want storage under the seat, check the booth’s seats are closed benches or open frames; the listing text we read does not say. A booth is also a fixture: it is not easy to rearrange. If you rent, consider a loose bench set instead; see our dining benches guide and for a table with a bench, a dining room table with bench.

Before you order a booth

  1. Measure both walls from the corner and check that they are straight; booths are rigid and a bowed wall leaves gaps.
  2. Check the doors, window sills and outlets that the booth would cover.
  3. Decide how many people sit there on most days; with 5 comfortable places, a booth suits a family of four with a guest.
  4. Check the width of your doorways against the largest box, since a 64.80 inch bench arrives in a long package.
  5. Plan lighting; a table in a corner may need a pendant, and our dining light height guide gives the 30 to 36 inch starting point.
  6. Think about children and elbow room: with 19.92 inch deep benches, a taller diner may find the 25.20 inch table close to the knees.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Buying a booth for a corner smaller than about 104 inches each way.
  • Treating the table’s 25.20 inch depth as the booth’s footprint.
  • Counting six seats at 24 inches per diner when you have 2 + 2 + 1.
  • Forgetting that a heavy booth cannot be moved after assembly.
  • Choosing a 29.5 inch table variant by mistake when you wanted a stool-height bar table, or vice versa.

Frequently asked questions

How much space does a booth style dining table need?

The booth we read is 68 by 68 inches, so with a 36 inch walkway you need about 104 by 104 inches of corner.

How many people sit in a corner booth?

About 5 comfortably by the 24 inch rule, 6 if you squeeze.

Can I put a booth in a small kitchen?

Only if the corner is large enough. A bench set or a compact table is the safer choice.

What is the difference between a booth and a bench set?

A booth has fixed corner benches that you slide into; a bench set has loose benches you can move.

Do booth tables come with storage?

The OS Home booth lists one drawer. Others vary; check the listing.
