Quick answer

Navy blue dining room chairs make a strong color accent, but a listing’s “navy” or “blue” is only a label, and photos vary with lighting. Before buying, check the material (velvet looks rich and marks easily, faux leather wipes clean), the seat height and depth against your table and legs, the width for how many fit and the weight rating. Look at the listing’s color notice, because several sellers warn that the real color can differ from the photo.

We read three Amazon listings on 2026-09-30: a set of 2 in navy faux leather on steel legs, a set of 2 in blue velvet on a gold metal frame and a set of 2 in blue velvet with a very shallow seat. They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. We have not tested or sat on any of them. All numbers come from the listings.

For related guides, see dining chairs, faux leather dining room chairs, most comfortable dining room chairs and dark wood dining room chairs.

Sellers use navy, blue, deep blue and indigo loosely. The Amoa listing is titled blue. The ACOHOOK listing names a deep navy blue finish in the bullets but the title says blue. The Walker Edison listing says navy blue in the title.

The Amoa listing notes that photos may differ slightly from the actual item because of monitor display. A dark blue also changes with room light, looking nearly black in a dim room. If color matters, order a fabric sample or check the return policy.

Velvet or faux leather

Velvet is soft and looks rich, but it picks up marks, crumbs and pet hair and needs care. Faux leather is smooth and wipes clean but can feel cooler or warmer than fabric and shows scratches differently.

The Walker Edison chair is upholstered in easy-to-clean synthetic leather over foam. The Amoa and ACOHOOK chairs are velvet over foam. The listings do not say how the velvet is treated against stains, so we cannot compare them.

Seat height

As our own planning estimate, not a standard, a seat about 10 to 12 inches below the tabletop suits a typical table. On a 30 inch table, the Walker Edison seat at 19 inches leaves 30 − 19 = 11 inches. The Amoa seat at 17.5 inches leaves 12.5 inches. The ACOHOOK seat at 18 inches leaves 12 inches.

Seat depth

As our own estimate, leave about 2 inches between the seat front and the back of your knee. The Walker Edison seat is 14.75 inches deep, the Amoa seat is 18 inches deep and the ACOHOOK seat is 12 inches deep.

A 12 inch seat is very shallow and suits a small person or a short sit. A 14.75 inch seat is also shallow. The Amoa seat is closest to a standard dining depth.

Width

The Walker Edison chair is 18.87 inches wide, the Amoa chair is 19 inches wide and the ACOHOOK chair is 18 inches wide. On a 60 inch table, two Walker Edison chairs take 37.74 inches of a long side, leaving 22.26 inches.

Frame and legs

The Walker Edison chair has powder-coated steel legs. The Amoa chair has a stainless steel frame with a brushed gold finish. The ACOHOOK listing describes metal legs with a faux-wood grain finish and rubber foot pads, though its specification lists a wood frame.

Gold legs add a decorative contrast with navy. The listings do not describe how the finishes resist scratching.

Weight ratings

The listings give 300 pounds for the Walker Edison chair, 200 pounds for the Amoa chair and 450 pounds for the ACOHOOK chair. A similar blue velvet listing from another seller (TECHYAP) gives a maximum weight recommendation of 12 pounds, which is clearly an error. The figures are the sellers’ and we have not verified them.

A 200 pound rating is low for adult dining chairs.

Set size and shipping

All three listings are sets of 2. For four chairs you need two sets, and colors can vary between batches, which matters with a dark blue. Order all at once.

The three listings we read

Walker Edison Douglas Urban Industrial Faux Leather Armless Dining Chairs, set of 2, navy blue (model CHL18BU). The listing gives 22 by 18.87 by 31.12 inches (D by W by H), a seat height of 19 inches, a seat depth of 14.75 inches, a listed weight of 13 pounds, a 300 pound maximum recommendation, synthetic leather over foam and powder-coated steel legs. Good for: a wipeable navy chair with a stated seat height. Keep in mind: the 14.75 inch seat is shallow. The page showed an Add to Cart button and an In Stock message.

Amoa Contemporary Golden Metal Legs with Velvet Upholstered Dining Chairs, set of 2, blue (model C010BU). The listing gives 22.5 by 19 by 30.5 inches, a seat of 19 inches wide and 18 inches deep at 17.5 inches high, a cushion 2.75 inches thick, a listed weight of 12.25 pounds, a 200 pound maximum recommendation, a round seat and curved quilted back and a stainless steel frame in gold. Good for: a decorative navy and gold look with clearly stated seat dimensions. Keep in mind: the rating is the lowest of the three and the listing noted only 1 in stock on the day we read it, which can change. The page showed an Add to Cart button.

ACOHOOK Dining Chairs Set of 2, velvet kitchen chairs with curved backrest, blue (model ADC-05A-Blue1). The listing gives 16 by 18 by 30 inches, a seat height of 18 inches, a seat depth of 12 inches, a seat back interior height of 20 inches, a listed weight of 15 pounds, a 450 pound maximum recommendation, a velvet cover and metal legs with a faux-wood finish. Good for: a small person or a small table that wants velvet and a high stated rating. Keep in mind: the 12 inch seat is very shallow, and the specification lists an arm height and seat depth adjustment that do not fit a fixed armless chair. The page showed an Add to Cart button and the message “only 8 left in stock,” which can change.

A worked example

These numbers are invented. A table is 30 inches high and 60 inches long. A person has a hip-to-knee length of 18 inches and weighs 220 pounds.

Seat height. The gaps to the tabletop are 11 inches (Walker Edison), 12.5 inches (Amoa) and 12 inches (ACOHOOK), all close to our 10 to 12 inch range.

Seat depth. Using our 2 inch planning gap, the ideal depth is 18 − 2 = 16 inches. The Walker Edison at 14.75 inches leaves a gap of 18 − 14.75 = 3.25 inches, the Amoa at 18 inches leaves 0 inches and the ACOHOOK at 12 inches leaves 6 inches. The Walker Edison is closest to the target, and the Amoa seat reaches the knee.

Width. Two chairs per side take 37.74 inches (Walker Edison), 38 inches (Amoa) and 36 inches (ACOHOOK), leaving 22.26, 22 and 24 inches on a 60 inch side.

Weight. At 220 pounds, the Amoa’s 200 pound rating is 220 − 200 = 20 pounds under the person’s weight, so it is not suitable. The Walker Edison’s 300 leaves 80 pounds, and the ACOHOOK’s 450 leaves 230.

The example shows that the prettiest chair is not necessarily the one that fits: here the Walker Edison meets depth and rating together.

Red flags in listings

A weight rating that equals a chair’s weight, specification fields for arms on an armless chair, a color named navy in the bullets and blue in the title and a package size used as the chair size are signs to ask. Also check the color notice and the return policy.

Who should skip navy velvet

If you have young children or pets, velvet shows marks and needs more cleaning. If your room is dark, navy may look black. If you want chairs that match a dark wood table, check the undertone: some blues read cool and some warm. For easier care, see faux leather dining room chairs.

Frequently asked questions

Is navy the same as blue on a listing?

Not always. Sellers use navy, blue and deep blue loosely, and photos vary with lighting.

Is velvet a good dining chair fabric?

It looks rich and feels soft but marks easily. The listings do not say if it is stain-treated.

What seat depth do I need?

About 2 inches shorter than your hip-to-knee length, by our estimate. The chairs we read are 12 to 18 inches deep.

Can I mix two sets of navy chairs?

Order them together, because colors can differ slightly between batches.

What weight rating should I look for?

One above your weight with some margin. One listing we read says 200 pounds and another says 450.

Bottom line

Choose navy blue dining room chairs by material, seat depth, seat height and weight rating, and treat the color name as a hint. Of the three listings above, the Walker Edison is the wipeable navy faux leather pair, the Amoa is the gold-framed velvet pair with the lowest rating and the ACOHOOK is the shallow-seat velvet pair with the highest rating. Check the color notice before you order.
