- Slats. The Orisfur listing says 10 slats. A twin is 74 inches long. If each slat were 2 inches wide, an assumption because the listing gives no width, the gap would be (74 minus 10 times 2) divided by 9, which is 6.0 inches; at 3 inches wide it is 4.9 inches. Both are more than the four inches that Nest Bedding’s warranty allows and much more than Sleep Number’s two. For a child’s mattress, the warranty may not matter; for an expensive foam one it might. How to choose
Decide what you store. Clothes and bedding: drawers. Bins and luggage: open space.
Decide how heavy a bed you can move. 127 pounds is a two-person job; open frames are lighter.
Check the mattress size. A twin is 38 by 74; a twin XL is 38 by 80. A dorm usually means twin XL.

For a child: height, rails and moving
