A toddler chair is a small chair, usually plastic, for a child at a low table or play area. The numbers to check are the seat height against your child’s lower leg, the overall size, the recommended age and how stable the legs are. Listings for toddler chairs often have mismatched size fields and unusual weight claims, so read the whole page.

We read three Amazon listings on 2026-10-01: the Sunkaioo plastic dino chair (ASIN B09TTQDX19), the KidBloom ergonomic toddler chair with a rainbow backrest (B0FCD48ZG3) and the WHY TOYS adjustable 3-level kids chairs, 2 pack (B09NDVR8KN). They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. Every number comes from the listings, including the age and safety statements, which are the sellers’ claims and not our certification.
For a table to go with a chair, see kids table and chairs. For adult seating, see dining benches and bar stools with backs.
Seat height is the number that matters
A toddler’s feet should reach the floor, and the table should be at a sensible height for their elbows. None of the three listings gives a seat height in the text we read. They give overall height, which includes the back.
The Sunkaioo chair is 12.6 inches deep, 11.6 inches wide and 19.3 inches high overall. The WHY TOYS chair is 11 inches deep, 11.8 inches wide and 22.4 inches high, with three height levels listed at 20.9, 21.7 and 22.4 inches. The KidBloom listing contradicts itself, with 11 by 11 by 5.9 inches in one field and 10 by 10 by 18 inches in another.
A worked example with illustrative numbers. Your child’s lower leg, from the floor to the back of the knee, is 9 inches. A chair 19.3 inches high overall might have a seat 10 to 11 inches from the floor, but the listing does not say, so the number is a guess. Ask the seller for the seat height, or measure the chair when it arrives and return it if it does not fit.
The three listings disagree with themselves
The KidBloom size fields are the clearest example. 5.9 inches is plainly not the height of a chair that has a rainbow backrest. The other field, 18 inches, is more believable. When two fields disagree, trust the picture and ask the seller. A listing with careless numbers may also be careless elsewhere, so read the page.
Age range
The Sunkaioo title says it is for boys and girls aged 3 and up. The WHY TOYS listing says it is suitable for children aged 2 to 6. The KidBloom listing says it is for toddlers and kids, without an age range in the text we read.
An age range is a guide. A child’s size varies, and the same chair can suit a small four-year-old and be tight for a large three-year-old. Check the seat and back against your child, not the number.
Adjustable height
The WHY TOYS chair is the only one that adjusts, with three levels. The listing says the height can be adjusted to 20.9, 21.7 or 22.4 inches to adapt to growing children, and that it comes as a 2 pack. An adjustable chair lasts longer and costs more parts that can loosen. Check that the adjustment locks.
The Sunkaioo and KidBloom chairs are fixed height. A fixed chair is simpler and steadier.
The weight claims
The Sunkaioo listing says it holds up to 220 pounds. The WHY TOYS title says maximum load-bearing 220 pounds. The KidBloom listing says “enhanced weight capacity” without a number in the text we read.
A 220 pound figure on a toddler chair does not mean an adult should sit on it. A toddler weighs a small fraction of that, so the rating is a margin against jumping and tipping, not an invitation to adults. As our own estimate, a toddler of 30 pounds is about 14 percent of 220 pounds, which is 30 ÷ 220 ≈ 0.136. The risk to a child is tipping, not breaking, so stable legs matter more than the rating.
Stability and legs
The Sunkaioo listing says the chair legs are cylindrical or triangular in shape to reduce tipping (the text uses both words). The KidBloom listing says tapered legs provide a stable base to prevent tipping, with rounded edges and no sharp corners. The WHY TOYS listing says four non-slip foot covers.
Splayed or wide-set legs are steadier than straight ones, which is a general design principle and not a claim from the listings. Check that your child cannot tip the chair backward with a small shove. Supervise young children on any chair.
Materials and cleaning
The Sunkaioo chair is plastic. The KidBloom is polypropylene (PP). The WHY TOYS chair is polypropylene according to its bullet (the detail field says polyethylene). The listings say wipe clean, and the WHY TOYS says the surface is waterproof.
Plastic is easy to clean, can get slippery on a polished floor and can crack in cold or sun over time, which is a general property and not a statement from the listings. If the chair will be outdoors, check that it is meant for it; the Sunkaioo listing says indoor.
Weight and carrying
The listings say the Sunkaioo is light enough for a child to carry and the KidBloom’s backrest handle doubles as a hand hold. The weights were not recorded. A light chair is easy to move and easy for a toddler to push around.
Safety notes
We are not certifying any of these. Small furniture for children should be stable, have no sharp edges or pinch points and be used with supervision. The KidBloom listing says all edges are rounded; the Sunkaioo listing says non-toxic plastic. Those are the sellers’ statements, and a certification matters more than a claim, so look for one in the listing if it matters to you.
The three listings we read
Sunkaioo Toddler Chair, Plastic Kids Dino Chair, Green (ASIN B09TTQDX19). The listing gives 12.6 by 11.6 by 19.3 inches, a plastic build, a curved backrest, a 220 pound claim, an age of 3 and up and indoor use.
KidBloom Toddler Chair, Ergonomic Kids Chair, Durable Chair for Kids (ASIN B0FCD48ZG3). The listing gives polypropylene, tapered legs, rounded edges, a rainbow backrest handle and conflicting sizes (11 by 11 by 5.9 inches and 10 by 10 by 18 inches).
WHY TOYS Adjustable Kid Chairs, 3 Level Adjustable, 2-Pack (ASIN B09NDVR8KN). The listing gives 11 by 11.8 by 22.4 inches, three heights of 20.9, 21.7 and 22.4 inches, polypropylene, four non-slip foot covers, a waterproof surface, an age range of 2 to 6 and a 220 pound claim.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not trust one size field when two disagree. Do not buy by overall height instead of seat height. Do not read a 220 pound figure as meaning adults can sit. And do not leave a toddler unsupervised on a chair they can tip.
Who should skip a toddler chair
If your child is under 2, a high chair or a low support chair is more suitable. If you have a taller table, a booster seat may fit better. If you want a chair for outdoors, check the material’s weather claims.
Frequently asked questions
What size is a toddler chair?
The listings give overall heights of about 18 to 22 inches, which include the back. The seat height is lower and is not stated.
What age is a toddler chair for?
The listings say 3 and up and 2 to 6. Check against your child.
How much weight can a toddler chair hold?
Two listings say 220 pounds. That is a claim and it is not for adults.
Do toddler chairs adjust?
The WHY TOYS chair has three heights. The others we read are fixed.
Are plastic chairs safe?
Check stability and edges, and supervise your child. The listings make safety claims we have not verified.
Bottom line
Choose a toddler chair by seat height, size fields you can trust, age range and stable legs. Of the three listings, the Sunkaioo is the fixed 19.3 inch dino chair, the KidBloom is the handle-back chair with conflicting sizes and the WHY TOYS is the adjustable 2 pack with three heights. Ask the seller for the seat height.
