Quick answer

If your office chair has hard plastic armrests that sit too low, you can add pads that raise and cushion your forearms. This is a simple fix, but it has a limit: the pad adds thickness, so check that the chair still slides under your desk. The numbers worth checking are the pad’s thickness, the armrest width it fits, how it attaches and what the cover is made of.

We read three Amazon listings on 2026-10-01: the Everlasting Comfort memory foam armrest pads (ASIN B089Q9D5W9), the WESTERN COMFORT thick memory foam armrest pads (B08FF8757S) and the YUAIRY gel memory armrest pads (B0HC27M8RM). They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. We have not tested or used any of them, and we do not show prices; check the current price on Amazon. Every number comes from the listings.

This is shopping information, not medical advice. If you have pain in the elbows, wrists or shoulders, ask a clinician. If you are shopping for a chair with adjustable arms instead, see desk chair adjustable height, comfortable work chair and high end ergonomic chair.

What pads do and what they cannot do

A pad cushions a hard armrest and raises it by its thickness. It does not move the armrest sideways, change its angle or fix an armrest that is too far apart. If the armrests are too wide for your shoulders, a pad will not narrow them, and if they are too high already, a pad makes it worse.

A pad is the right fix when the arm is a little low or hard, and the wrong fix when the problem is width or position.

Thickness and desk clearance

The WESTERN COMFORT listing gives a thickness of 1.3 inches. The Everlasting Comfort listing gives 9.5 by 3 by 1.5 inches. The YUAIRY listing gives 9.8 by 4 by 2.7 inches, and also lists it as 9.84 by 2.75 by 4.33 inches in the detail field, so the thickness is probably 2.7 inches.

Sizing example with sample numbers. Your chair’s armrest is 26 inches from the floor and your desk top is 29 inches high, with the desk’s frame 27 inches from the floor under the surface. As a rule of thumb, the arm needs to clear the underside of the desk if you want to tuck the chair in. A 1.3 inch pad raises the arm to 27.3 inches, which would hit a 27 inch desk apron, and a 2.7 inch pad raises it to 28.7 inches, which would also hit the apron, 0.3 inch under the 29 inch desktop. Measure the arm height and the clearance under your desk before you order.

If you do not tuck your chair under the desk, this does not matter, and the thicker pad gives more cushion.

Armrest width

The pad has to match the armrest. The WESTERN COMFORT listing says it fits armrests up to 3 inches wide. The YUAIRY listing says a wide fit for 3 to 6 inch armrests. The Everlasting Comfort listing gives a 3 inch width for the pad and says adjustable straps fit a wide range of chair types but does not state an armrest width in the text we read.

Measure the width of your armrest across the top. A narrow armrest of 2 inches under a 3 inch pad will leave the pad overhanging, which is fine, and a 4 inch armrest with a 3 inch pad will leave bare plastic on either side.

Length

The pads are 9.5, 10 and 9.8 inches long, according to the listings. A short pad covers the front half of a longer armrest. If your armrest is 11 inches or longer, the pad may sit at the front or the back, so decide where your forearm rests.

How they attach

The Everlasting Comfort listing says double-sided fasteners and adjustable straps. The WESTERN COMFORT listing says adjustable 13 inch Velcro straps, three heavy-duty stickers per pad and an anti-slip bottom that is safe on leather. The YUAIRY listing says hook-and-loop straps and anti-slip bottom dots.

Straps need a way to go around the armrest. A chair with a solid armrest that attaches to the seat on one side may leave no gap for a strap, in which case a sticker is the only option. Stickers can leave a residue on a finished arm, which is a general expectation and not a statement from the listings.

Foam and gel

The Everlasting Comfort pad is memory foam with an OEKO-TEX certified claim and a machine washable cover; the listing also says FSA and HSA eligible, which are the seller’s claims. The WESTERN COMFORT is medium-firm memory foam that the listing says reshapes after use. The YUAIRY has medium-firm memory foam under an enlarged cooling gel top, with three cover options: plush, cool-touch or breathable mesh.

Gel feels cooler at first and warms with body heat, a general property. We have not verified any cooling or pressure claims. If you sweat on your forearms, a mesh cover is worth a look.

Weight and portability

The Everlasting Comfort pad weighs 4.16 ounces each or per set (the listing does not say). The WESTERN COMFORT pad weighs 160 grams, about 5.6 ounces. The YUAIRY set weighs 14.72 ounces. All are light, and the lighter ones depend on the straps to stay put.

Care

The Everlasting Comfort and WESTERN COMFORT covers are machine washable, with the WESTERN COMFORT cover zipping off. The YUAIRY cover has a zipper and is removable. Memory foam should not be machine washed, and the listings refer to the covers.

Warranty

The WESTERN COMFORT listing says a lifetime replacement warranty from the seller. The other two listings did not state a warranty in the text we read. A seller’s warranty is only as good as the seller, so check the terms.

Other options

If your armrests are very low, a thicker pad or a chair with adjustable arms is a better fix. If your armrests are too wide, a narrower chair is the answer. If your desk has no clearance, consider a desk-mounted arm support instead, or a pad that fits on top of the desk edge, which is not covered here.

The three listings we read

Everlasting Comfort Office Chair and Wheelchair Arm Pads, Memory Foam Armrest Covers (ASIN B089Q9D5W9). The listing gives 9.5 by 3 by 1.5 inches, a weight of 4.16 ounces, memory foam, double-sided fasteners with adjustable straps and a machine washable cover. Good for: a slim pad that is likely to clear a desk. Keep in mind: no armrest width limit was recorded. The page showed an Add to Cart button.

WESTERN COMFORT Thick Armrest Pads, Memory Foam Office Chair Arm Pads (ASIN B08FF8757S). The listing gives 10 by 3 inches, a thickness of 1.3 inches, a fit for armrests up to 3 inches wide, 13 inch Velcro straps, stickers, an anti-slip bottom and a lifetime replacement warranty. Good for: a stated width limit and warranty. Keep in mind: it will not suit armrests wider than 3 inches. The page showed an Add to Cart button.

YUAIRY Office Chair Arm Pads, Gel Memory Armrest Pads, Set of 2 (ASIN B0HC27M8RM). The listing gives 9.8 by 4 by 2.7 inches, a fit for 3 to 6 inch armrests, a cooling gel top over memory foam, hook-and-loop straps and three cover options. Good for: wide armrests and the thickest cushion. Keep in mind: 2.7 inches is the most likely to hit the underside of a desk. The page showed an Add to Cart button.

Mistakes to avoid

Do not buy a thick pad without checking the desk clearance. Do not ignore the armrest width. Do not expect a pad to fix armrests that are too wide. And do not trust cooling or pain claims as facts.

Who should skip armrest pads

If your armrests already fit and are padded, pads add height you may not want. If your chair has no arms, a pad is of no use. If your arms hurt, a pad may not fix the problem, so ask a clinician.

Frequently asked questions

How thick are armrest pads?

The three we read are about 1.3, 1.5 and 2.7 inches thick.

Will a pad fit my armrest?

It depends on the width. One listing fits up to 3 inches, another 3 to 6 inches. Measure yours.

Will my chair still fit under the desk?

Maybe not. Add the pad thickness to the armrest height and compare with the clearance under the desk.

How do pads stay on?

Straps, stickers and anti-slip bottoms, according to the listings.

Can I wash them?

The covers are removable and the listings say machine washable for two of them. Do not wash the foam.

Bottom line

Choose chair armrest pads by thickness, the width of your armrest and your desk clearance. Of the three listings, the Everlasting Comfort is the slim 1.5 inch pad, the WESTERN COMFORT is the 1.3 inch pad for armrests up to 3 inches wide with a lifetime replacement warranty and the YUAIRY is the 2.7 inch gel pad for wider armrests. Measure your armrest and the desk first.
