If you already own a desk and want to try standing without replacing it, a converter that sits on top of the desk is the cheapest test. The catch is weight: the three 32-inch converters we compared list capacities of only 17.6 to 33 pounds, so the monitor you plan to use decides which one is even an option. The VIVO 32-inch is the most compact, the JOY worker adds a keyboard tray, and the Aconcept is made for corner desks.

We have not tested these products. Sizes, height ranges and weight limits come from the Amazon listings, checked on September 29, 2026. Where a listing is unclear, we say so.

The listings measure height in different ways, and the JOY worker and Aconcept pages do not say what the minimum height is measured from. Treat those height ranges as approximate and confirm on the product page.

Will one raise you to the right standing height?

A converter has to lift the keyboard to your standing elbow height. Our planning estimate is about 63 percent of your height (see our desk height guide), and the converter adds its rise to the height of your existing desk. Enter both below.

Check the rise and the fit

Your height, your desk height and, if you like, the width and depth of your desk surface. All in inches.

Uses our planning estimate of 63 percent of your height, with the listed height ranges. Estimates, not a standard. Converters also raise your keyboard when sitting, which can make a low desk too high for sitting.

    The three converters

VIVO 32-Inch Single Top Standing Desk Converter (DESK-V032JW)

    31.5″ x 18.5″ top · 5 height settings · 17.6 lb desktop limit

A slim single-surface riser that the listing says rests only 1.8 inches above the desk and has five lockable heights from 8.5 to 15.9 inches, changed by squeezing handles. It arrives pre-assembled and holds a monitor and laptop on one 31.5 by 18.5 inch surface.

    • Good for: a small desk with one monitor or a laptop where you want the lowest resting height.
    • Keep in mind: the stated 17.6 lb limit is the lowest of the three, so check the weight of your monitor before buying. There is no separate keyboard tray, so keyboard and screen rise together.

JOY worker 32-Inch Standing Desk Converter

    31.5″ x 15.7″ top + keyboard tray · 4.9″ to 19.3″ · 28.6 lb top tier

A two-tier riser with a 31.5 by 15.7 inch top and a removable 24.4 by 11.8 inch keyboard tray that rises in sync. The listing says it lifts smoothly by squeezing a handle, uses an X-shaped frame and holds 28.6 lb on the top tier and 4.4 lb on the lower tier.

    • Good for: a keyboard tray and one or two small screens on a desk that is at least 32 inches wide.
    • Keep in mind: the lower tier holds only 4.4 lb, and the top is 15.7 inches deep, so a large monitor plus a stand may not leave much room. Check what the height range is measured from.

Aconcept 32-Inch Corner Standing Desk Converter

    32″ W x 20″ D triangle · 4.5″ to 20″ · 33 lb desktop limit

A triangular riser for L-shaped or corner desks. The listing says it uses a pneumatic spring for a smooth lift over a range of 4.5 to 20 inches, comes pre-assembled and holds up to 33 lb on a 32 by 20 inch surface.

    • Good for: an L-shaped or corner desk where a rectangular riser would waste the corner.
    • Keep in mind: the corner shape only suits a corner or L-shaped desk, and the listing does not say what the height range is measured from.

How to choose a converter for a small desk

    • Start with weight. Look up the weight of your monitor, and add an arm or stand if you use one. Compare the total with the stated limit of the converter you are considering. If the total is close, choose a higher limit.
    • Check the height range against your body. Use the tool above. If the range is too low, you cannot stand comfortably. If the converter’s lowest setting is high, sitting will feel too high and you may need a footrest.
    • Check the depth. Keep at least 20 inches from your eyes to the screen (OSHA monitor guidance). A shallow riser may put the monitor too close.
    • Check your desk. The riser must fit on the desk surface, and the desk must hold the combined weight. A wobbly desk stays wobbly.
    • Leg room. A converter does not change what is under the desk, so it does not fix a low desk or cramped knees.
    • If you would rather replace the desk, see our standing desk picks.

    Frequently asked questions

Are standing desk converters worth it?

They are a cheap way to try standing without replacing your desk. The main limits are the weight limit and the extra height of the resting position.

How much weight can a standing desk converter hold?

The three we compared list 17.6 lb, 28.6 lb (top tier) and 33 lb. Check the limit of the model you choose against your monitor and accessories.

What size converter fits a small desk?

The three here are all about 32 inches wide. Check that the depth fits your desk and leaves you at least 20 inches from the screen.

Can a converter go on any desk?

It needs a flat surface large enough for its footprint and a desk that can hold the combined weight.

Do I still need a footrest?

Possibly. A converter raises the keyboard even in its lowest position, and if your desk is already high, you may need a footrest when sitting, as OSHA suggests when desk height cannot be adjusted.
