The three listings use three color names: Navy Blue in the title of the Chesterfield, Retro Blue in its table, and plain Blue for the other two. A color field gives you a category, not a shade. Photos on screens vary, and velvet looks lighter or darker depending on the direction of the pile and the light. On the Art Deco listing the table is inconsistent twice: the seat height field repeats the overall height of 33.08 inches, and the seating capacity reads 1 for a three-seater. We cannot tell the depth from the page, so treat the 34.26 inch figure as a possible depth, not a fact. When a table contradicts the title, ask the seller for the real depth before you rely on the table.

Worked example: the footprint

Use the length times the depth. A 12 by 14 ft room is 144 x 168 in, or 24,192 sq in. This room is an example we chose, not a standard.

Check the arithmetic: 82.2 x 31.2 = 2,565 sq in, and 2,565 / 24,192 = 0.106. For the loveseat, 57.5 x 32.7 = 1,880 sq in, and 1,880 / 24,192 = 0.078. The third row is a what-if, because the depth is not confirmed. The box also overstates a sofa with arms that slope, so use the share as an upper bound.

OROA, a furniture retailer, suggests 30 to 36 inches for main walkways and 14 to 18 inches between a sofa and a coffee table. On the 168 inch side of the example room, the Chesterfield’s 31.2 inch depth plus a 16 inch gap plus a 24 inch table is 71.2 inches. The table size here is our assumption.

Seat height and comfort

POVISON’s guide says most sofas have a seat height of about 17 to 19 inches and a seat depth of about 21 to 24 inches. The Chesterfield lists a seat depth of 22.5 inches and a seat height of 18.5 inches, so both sit inside those ranges. The loveseat lists a seat height of 17.7 inches, which also fits. The Art Deco listing’s seat height equals the overall height, so it tells you nothing.

Velvet needs a care check. The Chesterfield’s bullets describe a removable long seat cushion for routine care, and the loveseat bullets call the flannel or flax cloth wrinkle resistant, which is a seller claim and contradicts the velvet in the table. Read the care label for the exact model.

Weight, doors and delivery

The three weigh 100 lb, 77 lb and 88.6 lb. Furniture Academy says the entryway has to be wider than at least one of a piece’s depth, height or diagonal depth. The U.S. Access Board gives 32 inches as a minimum clear width at doorways on accessible routes, which is a sensible worst case before you measure your own. Against 32 inches, the Chesterfield’s depth of 31.2 inches clears by 0.8 inches and its height of 29.5 inches clears by 2.5 inches. The Art Deco and loveseat listings both promise easy assembly, and the Chesterfield lists hardware as an included component, so plan for some assembly and ask which parts arrive attached.

Keep in mind: the table’s seat height equals the overall height and its seating capacity reads 1, so verify the depth before you plan around it.
