Worked example, for a person 5 ft 6 in tall who likes to lounge. The target is a seat height of 17 to 18.5 inches. The Modway sofa at 17.5 inches is inside the target. The 78 inch boneless sofa at 15.7 inches is 17 − 15.7 = 1.3 inches below the bottom of the range. The 5-in-1 convertible at 15 inches is 17 − 15 = 2 inches below it. A lower seat is not a defect if you want a floor-level lounge, and a low seat is harder to stand up from, so it matters more for knees and backs than for style.
Seat depth needs more care, because the listings contradict themselves. The Modway table says seat depth 32 inches, but the overall depth is 31.5 inches, and a seat cannot be deeper than the sofa. The 78 inch boneless sofa lists a seat depth of 33.5 inches, which equals its overall depth, so that field is probably the whole depth. When a listing’s seat depth matches its overall depth, do not use it as a seat measurement. Ask the seller, or sit on a sofa in a showroom and measure the seat from the front edge to the back cushion.
Fabric: velvet or corduroy
The Modway listing describes a performance velvet polyester upholstery and a stain-resistant fabric. The two boneless sofas are corduroy over foam. Those are seller claims and we have not tested them. The practical question is cleaning: we did not note a care instruction in the rows we read for the two boneless sofas, so check the care label or ask the seller before you buy.
Velvet and corduroy both have a pile that shows brushing direction, so a sofa can look two shades in different light. That is general behavior of pile fabrics and not a listing claim.
Width against the wall
A green sofa draws the eye, so give it space. On a 12 ft (144 in) wall, a 60 inch sofa covers 60 / 144 = 41.7 percent, a 73 inch sofa covers 50.7 percent and a 78 inch sofa covers 54.2 percent.
