Three kinds of sofa end table
The four listings cover three shapes.
- C-shaped slide-under. A cantilever frame slides under the sofa seat so the top sits over your lap. It suits laptops and trays. It needs clear space under the sofa.
- Narrow upright. A slim rectangular table, 7 inches wide, that fits between a sofa and a wall or a chair.
- Narrow with storage or power. A slim table with shelves, an outlet and USB ports for charging.
Pick the shape by what you do next to the sofa: eat or work from the couch, put a lamp or a drink down, or charge a phone.
Worked example: height against the arm
OROA says a side table should sit within about 2 inches of the sofa arm, and a coffee table should sit level with the seat or up to 2 inches lower. The OROA guide does not give a rule for C-shaped tables that slide over the seat, so treat that use as a separate case.
Say your sofa arm is 24 inches high, the arm height we saw on the Studio Living Harrington sofa in another guide. The target is a table from 22 to 26 inches. Here is how the four compare, by listed height.

The arithmetic is 25 − 24 = 1, 26.37 − 24 = 2.37, 24 − 21 = 3 and 25.6 − 24 = 1.6. With a different arm height the result changes, so measure your own, and note that 2.37 inches is a small miss that a leveling foot or a lower setting may fix. That is our reasoning and not a claim from the listing.
Width and footprint
Width matters when the gap is narrow. Here are the listed sizes and the floor each takes.

The footprints are 15.7 x 9.8 = 154, 11.41 x 15.35 = 175, 19.5 x 7 = 137 and 7.1 x 16.5 = 117 sq in. The narrowest in one direction is the 7 inch marble table and the HOOBRO’s 7.1 inch depth, so they suit a gap between a sofa and a wall.
OROA suggests 24 inches or more for secondary passages in compact rooms and 30 to 36 inches for main walkways. A table placed in a path should still leave one of those clear.
The C-shaped tables: check the clearance underneath
A C-shaped table tucks under the sofa, so the sofa’s underside has to be higher than the table’s base. None of the listings gives the base height of the C, and we did not find it in the rows we read. Measure the clearance under your sofa, from the floor to the lowest part of the seat frame, and ask the seller for the base height before you order. A boneless floor sofa has no clearance underneath at all, and the legs on framed sofas vary, so measure yours.
The AMHANCIBLE listing says its tables tuck under most couches, recliners or beds with low clearance. The fusehome listing says it tucks under a couch or bed. Both are seller claims.
Load and stability
The fusehome listing says its two-bracket steel frame supports up to 50 lb. The AMHANCIBLE lists four adjustable leveling feet and a rigid metal frame, and a 0.8 inch tabletop. The HOOBRO lists metal and particleboard, a 1.9 cm top and three shelves, and the narrow marble table is engineered wood at 3 lb. A 3 lb table is light, and a table that light can tip if you lean on it or put a heavy lamp near an edge. That is our reasoning and not a listed claim. We did not read a weight rating for the AMHANCIBLE, the marble table or the HOOBRO.
Outlets and charging
The HOOBRO listing describes a power strip with 1 outlet, 1 USB port and 1 Type-C port, with three open shelves. A table with an outlet still needs a cord to a wall socket. If the socket is behind the sofa, check the cord length, and do not run a cord across a walkway.

Keep in mind: at 26.37 in it is the tallest of the four, and its comparison table lists other sizes.

The bullets describe 1 outlet, 1 USB and 1 Type-C port and three open shelves with a metal and particleboard build. Good for charging and storage in a small footprint. Keep in mind: it needs a wall socket, and its depth is only 7.1 inches.
How to choose
- Measure the sofa arm height and aim within 2 inches of it.
- Measure the gap beside the sofa and the clearance under it.
- Pick the shape: slide-under, narrow upright or narrow with power.
- Check weight and stability if you will put a lamp or hot drinks on it.
- Check the cord reach if the table has an outlet.
