Quick answer
On Amazon, “zero gravity recliner” mostly means a folding lounge chair with a steel or aluminum frame, bungee-cord or mesh seat and a lock that holds it at any angle. “Zero gravity” is a marketing name for a reclined position with the legs raised. The checks that matter are the width (29 or 33 inches), the reclined length, the weight rating and whether your height fits.
We read three Amazon listings on 2026-10-01: a 29 inch XL zero gravity chair rated 440 pounds (ASIN B0CRB6R1F1), the VEVOR 33 inch zero gravity recliner rated 500 pounds (B0DDTJDT3J) and the Slendor oversized XXL 33 inch chair (B0D17T6HQH). They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. We have not tested or sat in any of them, and we do not show prices; check the current price on Amazon. Every number comes from the listings.
If you are looking for a motorized indoor chair, see power lift recliners and recliners. For rocking and swivel types, see rocker recliner.
What the term means
The listings use “zero gravity” for a reclined position where the backrest and the leg rest are angled so your knees are about level with your heart. We are not making health claims about that position and the listings do not give a standard definition. For shopping purposes it is a folding recliner with a lock.
The Slendor listing says the chair adjusts to any position in a 0 to 170 degree range with a locking buckle. The VEVOR listing gives a recline starting at 90 degrees. The 29 inch listing says “adjustable angle”. Those are the sellers’ numbers.
Width and the people who fit
Width is the first choice: the chairs are sold in 29 inch “XL” and 33 inch “XXL” sizes. The Slendor XXL listing gives 33 inches wide, 22 inches deep and 45 inches high when upright, an inner width of 27.2 inches and a weight of 20.2 pounds for the chair. The VEVOR comparison table lists both 33 and 26 inch models and gives 25.13 pounds for the 33 inch. The first listing is the 29 inch model, which its page shows beside 33 inch siblings.
An inner width of 27.2 inches is wider than most office chair seats. The listing says the XXL suits people up to 6 feet 2 inches tall. That is the seller’s range, not a standard.
Reclined length and your height
The Slendor listing gives a total reclining length of 69 inches. That is the length of the chair in the reclined position, including its footrest.
A worked example with invented numbers. A person 6 feet 4 inches tall is 76 inches. The reclined length of 69 inches is 76 − 69 = 7 inches shorter than the person, so the feet or head would hang over the end. A person 5 feet 10 inches is 70 inches, which is 1 inch longer than the chair, though the seat may be shaped so that the legs rest on the raised end. The 6 feet 2 inches limit in the listing is 74 inches, which is 5 inches over 69. So the seller’s height range already assumes some overhang or a different way of measuring, and you should check what you get.
If you are tall, ask for the reclined length and the seat length before you order. One reviewer of the Slendor chair wrote that it is not made for anyone taller than 5 feet 6 inches; that is one customer’s opinion on the page, not the seller’s statement.
Weight rating
The 29 inch chair lists 440 pounds in its title. The VEVOR lists 500 pounds. The Slendor XXL lists 500 pounds in its title and bullets, but the comparison table on its page, which describes the 29 inch XL versions, lists 440 pounds. If you look at several Slendor pages, make sure you read the rating for the size you are buying.
A worked example. A 250 pound user on a 440 pound rating has 440 − 250 = 190 pounds of headroom, which is 190 ÷ 440 ≈ 43 percent. On a 500 pound rating the headroom is 250 pounds, 50 percent. These ratings are the sellers’ and we have not verified them. One reviewer on the Slendor page says a leg bolt failed at a weight well under the rating, which is a single customer’s account and not a test, but it is a reason to look at the hardware and the warranty.
Frame and locks
The VEVOR bullets mention reinforced square steel tubes, 8mm aluminum locks and a triangular frame. The Slendor bullets say an aluminum alloy locking buckle and a frame of 1 mm thick aluminum alloy steel tube with double-layer bungee cords. The 29 inch listing mentions a high-strength aluminum alloy lock and a reinforced steel frame with dual-layer elastic ropes.
The lock is the part that holds you in place, so it is the part to check. A thin tube and a plastic armrest pivot are where people report problems on cheaper folding chairs, which is a general pattern and not a statement about any one of these.
Cushions, headrest and trays
The Slendor XXL listing says it includes a detachable cushion, headrest, footrest and cup holder, plus an eye mask and earplugs. The cushion is 60 inches long, 24.4 inches wide and 2.8 inches thick. The VEVOR listing says a removable cushion 10 centimeters thick, which is about 3.9 inches, and a detachable tray with accessories. The 29 inch listing says removable cushions and gives cup holder dimensions of 11.4 by 7.7 inches.
A thick cushion is comfortable and makes the chair harder to get out of. One Slendor reviewer says exactly that, which is again a customer’s view. If you have stiff knees or hips, a cushion that is not too thick helps you stand.
Folding and storage
The Slendor XXL folds to 33 by 37 by 5.7 inches, which is 33 × 37 × 5.7 ≈ 6,960 cubic inches. That is flat enough to store behind a door but too long for a small closet. The VEVOR page lists dimensions of 37.01 by 6.3 by 33.46 inches, which look like the folded size. No assembly is needed on the Slendor, according to its listing.
Indoor or outdoor
All three describe themselves for patio, lawn, beach or indoor use. The VEVOR title says “Indoor and Outdoor”. The fabric is meant for outdoor use, which means it may be harder than a living-room recliner. If you plan to use it indoors every day, check the cushion and the floor feet.
Shipping and availability
When we read the VEVOR and Slendor pages from outside the United States, Amazon said they could not be shipped to our location and showed no Add to Cart button. That is a delivery-location result, not a statement that the chairs are unavailable in the United States. Check the pages from your own address.

Mistakes to avoid
Do not assume a 29 inch and a 33 inch chair have the same rating. Do not ignore your height against the reclined length. Do not choose the thickest cushion if you have trouble standing. And do not assume an outdoor chair is comfortable on a hard indoor floor without checking the feet.
Who should skip a zero gravity chair
If you are over 6 feet 2 inches, check the reclined length first. If you need help standing, a lift recliner is better. If you want a chair for a living room every day, a fixed recliner may suit better.
