Quick answer
“Mid century modern” on an Amazon listing describes a look: tapered legs, a low gently angled back and wood or wood-look arms. Three chairs sold with that label can still differ a lot in seat height, arm height, frame and weight. The checks are the seat height and depth, the arm height, what the frame is made of and the weight rating.
We read three Amazon listings on 2026-10-01: the Lexicon mid century modern accent chair with a walnut wood frame (ASIN B07P6NJVYJ), the Karl home mid-century lounge accent chair (B0D7953MH6) and the MAXYOYO modern accent chair with a metal frame and wooden armrests (B0DQ1JZ87Y). They are examples of what to compare, not a ranking. We have not tested or sat in any of them, and we do not show prices; check the current price on Amazon. Every number comes from the listings.

Overall size
The Lexicon listing gives 32 inches deep, 28.5 wide and 31.5 high. The Karl home listing gives 31.5 inches deep, 28.3 wide and 29.5 high in its detail field, and “28.3 inches L by 31.5 inches W by 29.5 inches H” in its bullet, so the depth and width are swapped between fields. The MAXYOYO listing gives 34.6 inches deep, 29.5 wide and 29.5 high.
The footprints are about 32 × 28.5 = 912 square inches for the Lexicon, 31.5 × 28.3 ≈ 891 for the Karl home and 34.6 × 29.5 ≈ 1,021 for the MAXYOYO, or roughly 6.2 to 7.1 square feet. The MAXYOYO is the deepest chair and the Karl home the lowest, at 29.5 inches against 31.5 for the Lexicon.
As our own planning estimate, a chair of this size needs about 2 feet of walk-by space on one side, and a coffee table at least 14 to 18 inches in front of the seat. Those are not published standards.
Seat height and arm height
The Lexicon listing gives a seat height of 18 inches and an arm height of 23 inches in its detail field, so the arm rises 23 − 18 = 5 inches above the seat. The Karl home listing did not give seat or arm heights in the text we read. The MAXYOYO listing gave a seat depth of 34.6 inches, which is clearly the overall depth and not the seat.
A worked example with invented numbers. You are 5 feet 4 inches tall and your lower leg from the floor to the back of the knee is 16.5 inches. As our own planning estimate, a seat close to your lower leg height lets your feet rest flat. The Lexicon at 18 inches is 1.5 inches higher, which most people will find fine, and a lower or higher seat will be a different feel. A very low mid century chair can be hard to rise from, which is a general observation and not a claim from the listings.
Seat depth
The Lexicon listing gives a seat depth of 21 inches. The other two listings did not give a clear seat depth. A 21 inch seat suits average legs, and a taller person may want deeper. Many mid century chairs have a reclined back angle that makes the seat feel deeper.
Frame and legs
The Lexicon chair has a solid wood frame, with a walnut finish over rubberwood according to its material field, and linen-look fabric over foam. The Karl home chair uses a solid wood frame with flared legs and extra pillows. The MAXYOYO chair has a metal frame with wooden armrests that the listing says are FSC-certified wood, a tufted corded fabric and high-density shredded foam in the seat and back.
A solid wood frame is traditional and stable; a metal frame with wooden armrests can look similar and costs less to ship. The sellers’ material claims are theirs, and we have not verified the FSC statement.
Weight rating
The Lexicon lists a maximum weight recommendation of 300 pounds. The Karl home listing says it can bear up to 330 pounds. The MAXYOYO listing says a weight capacity of up to 300 pounds.
A worked example. A 220 pound adult on a 300 pound rating has 80 pounds of headroom, which is 80 ÷ 300 ≈ 27 percent. On 330 pounds it is 110 pounds, about 33 percent. A rocking or lounging motion adds load, so more margin is better. These are the sellers’ figures.
Weight of the chair
The Lexicon weighs 28 pounds. The MAXYOYO weighs 8.7 kilograms, which is about 19.2 pounds. The Karl home weight was not recorded. A lighter chair is easier to move and to rearrange, and can slide on a hard floor; check the feet.
Fabric and cleaning
The Lexicon is linen-look fabric, textured. The Karl home listing mentions linen fabric and a teddy fabric option. The MAXYOYO is corded fabric. Linen-look and corded fabrics hide some wear and can show marks. Boucle and teddy fabrics are soft and can snag. Check whether the cover is removable; none of the listings we read said so.
Style notes and extras
The Karl home listing mentions extra pillows, widened arms and flared legs, with a green fabric. The Lexicon listing mentions a gently angled back, a wide seat and padded armrests. The MAXYOYO listing mentions tufting.
A true mid century look is partly about proportion: slim tapered legs, a low back and clean lines. A chair with a very thick seat cushion and a tall back can look more modern than retro. Compare the pictures with the numbers.
Assembly
All three arrive in a box with parts, instructions and, in the Lexicon and MAXYOYO listings, tools included. As our own estimate, an accent chair takes 15 to 30 minutes, mostly attaching the legs.
The three listings we read
Lexicon Mid Century Modern Accent Chair with Walnut Wood Frame, Orange (ASIN B07P6NJVYJ). The listing gives 32 by 28.5 by 31.5 inches, a seat height of 18 inches, a seat depth of 21 inches, an arm height of 23 inches, a weight of 28 pounds and a 300 pound rating. Good for: the most complete measurements. Keep in mind: a mid-height back and a rubberwood frame under the walnut finish. The page showed an Add to Cart button.
Karl home Mid-Century Lounge Accent Chair, Green (ASIN B0D7953MH6). The listing gives 31.5 by 28.3 by 29.5 inches (with the width and depth swapped in one field), a solid wood frame, flared legs, extra pillows and a 330 pound rating. Good for: the highest rating and the lowest height. Keep in mind: no seat height was recorded and the page showed no Add to Cart button when we read it.
MAXYOYO Modern Accent Chair, Comfy Living Room Chair with Metal Frame (ASIN B0DQ1JZ87Y). The listing gives 34.6 by 29.5 by 29.5 inches, a weight of 8.7 kilograms, a metal frame with wooden armrests, tufted corded fabric and a 300 pound rating. Good for: the lightest chair. Keep in mind: it is the deepest and the “seat depth” field is the overall depth. The page showed an Add to Cart button.
Mistakes to avoid
Do not buy by the style label alone. Do not trust a seat-depth field that equals the overall depth. Do not forget the arm height if you want to tuck under a table. And do not assume a metal frame is the same as solid wood.
Who should skip a mid century chair
If you want a deep reclining seat, a recliner is better. If you need firm support for a bad back, a chair with a high back and lumbar is better; see comfortable work chair. If your room is small, a 34 inch deep chair takes a lot.
Frequently asked questions
What makes a chair mid century modern?
A look: tapered legs, clean lines and a low, angled back. The listings use the term loosely.
How big are mid century accent chairs?
The three we read are 29.5 to 31.5 inches high, 28 to 29.5 inches wide and 31.5 to 34.6 inches deep.
How much weight can they hold?
The listings say 300, 330 and 300 pounds. Those are the sellers’ figures.
Is a metal frame as good as wood?
It can be sturdy. Check the weight rating and the build, not the label.
How high should the seat be?
Close to your lower leg height, by our estimate. The Lexicon seat is 18 inches.
Bottom line
Choose mid century modern chairs by seat and arm height, depth, frame and weight rating. Of the three listings, the Lexicon is the 28 pound walnut-finish chair with the clearest measurements, the Karl home is the 330 pound lounge chair with pillows and the MAXYOYO is the lightest chair with a metal frame and wooden arms. Measure your space and your lower leg first.
