Quick answer

The three sets we read on Amazon on 2026-10-01 are one L-shaped wicker set at 73 by 47 inches, one five-piece set whose listed size describes a single module, and one aluminum set with a daybed that gives no dimensions. On a 10 by 12 ft patio, the 73 by 47 inch L takes 19.9 percent of the floor and leaves 33 inches for a path after a table, which is inside OROA’s walkway guideline of 30 to 36 inches. Patio Productions’ buyer’s guide recommends aluminum over steel for the frame, and two of our three sets use steel.

Layout first

A sectional is built from modules that you can arrange as an L, a U or a row. The five-piece set in this guide says its modular pieces can be rearranged into an L-shape, a U-shape or spread out. The FDW set is listed as L-shaped and says its pieces are separable. A fixed L is simpler and a modular set is more flexible, and the flexible set needs more checking, because the listed size may not describe your layout.

Before you pick, sketch the patio, mark where the table goes and where people walk, and then fit the sectional into what is left.

Worked example: an L on a 10 by 12 ft patio

A 10 by 12 ft patio is 120 x 144 inches, or 17,280 sq in. This patio is an example we chose, not a standard. The FDW set lists 73 x 47 x 27 inches, so its footprint is 73 x 47 = 3,431 sq in, and 3,431 / 17,280 = 0.199, which is 19.9 percent.

Put the 73 inch side along the 144 inch wall. The depth of 47 inches runs into the 120 inch dimension, leaving 120 − 47 = 73 inches. Add a 16 inch gap and a 24 inch table, which total 40 inches. That leaves 73 − 40 = 33 inches for a path, which is inside the 30 to 36 inch walkway guideline from OROA, a furniture retailer. The 16 and 24 inch figures are our own assumptions, and OROA’s guide is written for living rooms, so use it as a starting point outdoors.

If the sectional is a longer L, the 33 inches shrinks fast. A U shape needs a much larger patio, because it takes three sides.

The size in the listing may be one module

The five-piece set lists 27 x 27 x 17 inches and 99 lb, and its set name is 5-Piece Patio Furniture Set with a glass coffee table. A 27 inch cube is one corner module and not the whole sectional. The weight of 99 lb is plausible for five pieces, and the dimensions are not. Ask the seller for the assembled layout drawing and the size of each piece, and add up the modules for your layout. We could not compute a footprint for this set from the listing.

The PURPLE LEAF set gives no dimensions at all in the rows we read. It lists one three-seat single-arm sofa, one adjustable daybed and one rectangle coffee table, with a size field that reads five seats with an adjustable chaise.

Frame: steel or aluminum

Patio Productions’ buyer’s guide, which we opened, says aluminum is the best choice because it will not rust or corrode like steel, and it cautions against steel. It also describes HDPE as the gold standard for outdoor wicker and says PVC can become brittle in sunlight.

Steel is not a defect if the coating is sound, and the guide still cautions against it. We have not tested coatings, so ask the seller how the frame is treated and whether the leg ends are protected.

Weather and cushion claims

The five-piece set lists Is Waterproof as false in its table, even though the bullets promise weather resistance for sun, rain and bad days. Take the table as the more careful statement, and plan to cover or store the cushions. The same guide says to wash cushions on a gentle cycle with mild detergent and air dry only, and to cover furniture that sits unused for a long time. The five-piece set says its cushion covers are removable and washable. The PURPLE LEAF listing says its fabric resists fading, UV rays and stains, names Sunbrella in its color field and says its covers are removable and machine washable, and Patio Productions recommends Sunbrella fabric for outdoor cushions. Whether the fabric is true Sunbrella is for the seller to confirm.

Table and extras

The FDW set includes a tempered glass table and the five-piece set a glass coffee table. The PURPLE LEAF includes a high-pressure laminate tabletop that its listing says resists scratches and heat. Glass is easy to wipe and can break, and a laminate top is a different trade-off. If you have children, the choice matters.

Delivery and assembly

Two of the three state that assembly is needed: the five-piece set says assembly is required and instructions are provided, and the FDW lists step-by-step instructions with screws. The PURPLE LEAF rows we read did not say, so ask. The FDW weighs 78 lb and the five-piece set 99 lb. The FDW and the PURPLE LEAF showed our Hanoi delivery address could not receive them, which says nothing about US stock.

How to choose

1. Sketch the patio and fit the sectional with the table and a 30 to 36 inch path.
2. Get the size of every module, not one module.
3. Prefer aluminum, or ask about steel coatings.
4. Check the cushion fabric, the covers and where you will store them.
5. Check the assembly and the delivery in pieces.
