SHW vs Huuger Home Office Desks: Which Fits a Small Room?
SHW and Huuger both sell home office desks in the 40 to 55 inch range, and they often appear on the same shortlist. The two brands offer different mixes, though. Our product file has an SHW fixed-height computer desk and an SHW electric standing desk, and a Huuger fixed 55-inch desk and a Huuger electric standing desk. Whether a desk is fixed or adjustable matters more than the brand, because it decides how much room the frame needs, how you will sit and stand, and how heavy the desk is to move. This guide compares the four listings on their listed figures only, and it names the places where a listing disagrees with itself.
Quick answer
If your wall is about 40 inches wide and you want a plain desk that does not change height, the SHW Mission 40-inch is the narrowest option in this group. If you want to alternate between sitting and standing and you have a wall about 55 inches wide, the SHW 55 x 28 standing desk is the closer match. If you want a fixed desk with more width, the Huuger 55-inch desk lists a 54-inch top. If you want a standing desk around 47 inches wide, the Huuger 47 x 24 is the choice in this group. The wall length you have available decides most of this, so measure first.
Measure before you compare
Start with three numbers from your room: the wall length you can give to the desk, the depth you can spare from the wall into the room, and the clearance you need behind the chair. None of the listings in our product file states a chair clearance, so leave that margin yourself. A common planning check is to make sure you can pull the chair out and stand up without hitting the wall. That is a planning check, not a measured standard.
Depth is the second number to check. The SHW 40 is listed at 19 inches deep, the Huuger 55 at 19.7 inches, and both standing desks at 23.6 to 28 inches. A standing desk that is 4 to 8 inches deeper than a fixed desk can decide whether it fits a shallow alcove, even when both fit the wall length.

Side-by-side table

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| SHW Mission 40 | Fixed | 40 in | 19 in | 28 in | 19 lb |
| SHW 55 x 28 | Electric standing | 55 in | 28 in | 28 to 45 in | Not stated (110 lb limit) |

The table shows what each listing says. Two of the rows are fixed desks and two are standing desks, so the weight column is not a like-for-like score. Neither number tells you how steady a desk feels at full height. We have not tested stability on any of these desks.
What changes in daily use
Height. Only the two standing desks move. The SHW 55 lists 28 to 45 inches, and the Huuger 47 lists 28.7 to 46.5 inches. The two fixed desks stay at their set height, 28 inches for the SHW 40 and 29.5 inches for the Huuger 55. The listings do not say which height suits a given person, so set the desk to your elbow height while seated and check the reach to the keyboard.
Width. The SHW 55 and the Huuger 55 are the widest options here. The SHW 40 is the narrowest, and its listing describes it as suited to small work areas with room for a laptop, monitor and accessories. Check your monitor width before you choose, because none of the listings in our file states a monitor capacity.
Depth. The SHW 55 and the Huuger 47 are both about 23.6 to 28 inches deep, while the SHW 40 and the Huuger 55 are about 19 to 20 inches. If the room is shallow, the fixed desks take less space from the wall.
Weight and moving. The Huuger 55 weighs 21 lb and the SHW 40 weighs 19 lb, which makes them easier to carry than a standing desk with a motor and frame. The listings for the two standing desks in our file do not state an item weight, so check the product page before you plan a move.
Assembly. The SHW 55 is the most involved set-up in this group, because its listing says assembly is required and recommends two people. The Huuger 55 listing says it takes under 40 minutes with one person, and the Huuger 47 listing says about 30 minutes. The SHW 40 listing describes easy assembly but does not give a time in our file.
Who should pick which
Pick the SHW Mission 40 if your wall is about 40 inches, you do not need height changes, and you want a light desk with a 5-year limited warranty listed in its bullet points. It is the lightest and narrowest desk in this group, on the listed figures.
Pick the SHW 55 x 28 if you want to alternate between sitting and standing and you have a wall about 55 inches wide with a free space behind the desk for a chair. The drawer is a useful extra if you keep supplies at the desk, and the listing states a 110 lb maximum recommended weight.
Pick the Huuger 55 if you want a fixed desk with a wide top, do not need height changes, and can accept a listing that gives two different widths. It is the heavier of the two fixed desks on the listed figures, at 21 lb, but it is still light enough to move by hand.
Pick the Huuger 47 x 24 if you want a standing desk narrower than 48 inches, with a built-in outlet and a digital height display. Its listed range, 28.7 to 46.5 inches, runs higher than the SHW 55 range of 28 to 45 inches, so check the top of the range against your desk chair and your reach.
Listing conflicts to check
- Huuger 55 width. The title says 55 inches, but the dimension fields say 54 inches. Measure before you buy.
- SHW 40 height fields. The minimum height field gives 70 centimetres and the maximum gives 28 inches. Both describe a fixed desk of about 28 inches, but the units differ, so use the 28-inch figure from the product dimensions when you plan.
- SHW 40 item dimensions. The product dimensions give 19 × 40 × 28 inches, and the item dimensions field gives 18.9 × 39.37 × 27.56 inches. The difference is rounding, but it is still a difference between two fields.
- Huuger 47 and SHW 55 weights. Neither standing desk lists an item weight in our file, so the weight comparison is incomplete for these two.
Another Huuger option, not compared here
Our file also lists a Huuger 63-inch L-shaped desk. We have left it out of the comparison above, because its listing shows an inconsistent height: the minimum height field gives 30.4 inches, but the maximum gives 30 inches, and the listing states one height position. Check that listing before you consider it.
Measurement checklist
- Wall length you can give to the desk, with a few inches to spare at each end.
- Depth from the wall into the room, plus the space the chair needs to pull out.
- Monitor width, if you run two screens.
- Outlet location for the standing desks and any desk lamp.
- The delivery path into the room for the box.
What we could not confirm
- We have not tested any of these desks. Stability, noise, motor life and the bullet-point claims about warranty and noise are not checked here.
- Item weights are missing for both standing desks in our file.
- Assembly times come from the listings, not from our own set-up.
Frequently asked questions
Is a standing desk worth it for a small home office?
It depends on how you work. A height-adjustable desk lets you change posture, but it takes more room and more set-up than a fixed desk. If you do not plan to stand at the desk, a fixed desk of the right size is usually enough.
Which desk is better for two monitors?
On the listed figures, the SHW 55 and the Huuger 55 have the widest tops, at 55 and 54 inches. The SHW 40 and the Huuger 47 are narrower. Check your monitor width and the stand footprint before you decide, because the listings do not give a monitor capacity.
Which of these desks is easiest to move?
The SHW 40, at 19 lb, and the Huuger 55, at 21 lb, are the two with a listed item weight that is easy to carry. The two standing desks do not list an item weight in our file, so check their product pages before you plan a move.
Is the SHW 55 standing desk the same as the Huuger 47?
No. The SHW 55 is wider and deeper, at 55 by 28 inches, and it has a drawer. The Huuger 47 is 47.2 by 23.6 inches, with a built-in outlet and a digital display. Their height ranges are close, but they are not the same size.
