Couch Cushion Slipcovers: Measure First, Then Match

Quick answer

A cushion slipcover is stretchy but not magic: each listing states a range for length, width and thickness, and your cushion has to fall inside all three. Measure each seat cushion once, write down length, width and thickness, and compare them with the ranges before you order. Of the three covers we read on Amazon on 2026-10-01, the ranges run from a narrow one (21.6 to 23.6 inches long) to a wide one (19.6 to 29.5 inches long).

What a cushion slipcover can and cannot fix

A slipcover covers the seat cushion fabric, so it hides stains, snags and fading and adds a washable layer. It does not fix flat foam, a sagging frame or a cushion that has shifted. If the cushion has lost its shape, the cover will fit but will not hold the shape. Replacing the foam is a separate job.

There are two main kinds. A one-piece-per-cushion cover goes over each seat cushion on its own, and a set cover spans the whole seat. The listings below include one of each, plus a third that sells two covers.

Measure the cushion

Measure with the cushion on the sofa, pressed flat. Use a soft tape.

1. Length: from the front edge to the back edge.
2. Width: from the left edge to the right edge.
3. Thickness: from the bottom to the top at the middle, not at the edge.
4. For a set cover, also measure the total sitting width across all seat cushions.

Write the numbers down and check them against the listing ranges. If one number falls outside, move on to a different cover.

Test three covers against two cushions

Worked example. Cushion A is 23 in long, 25 in wide and 5 in thick. Cushion B is 27 in long, 28 in wide and 6 in thick. These numbers are examples we chose, not standard sizes.

Cushion A passes both. Cushion B passes only the wide-range cover. The check is to put each of your three numbers inside the range, one by one.

A wide range is flexible, but the stretch is not free. The PrinceDeco length range runs from 19.6 to 29.5 in, a ratio of 29.5 / 19.6 = 1.51, which means the same cover is asked to stretch about 50 percent from the smallest to the largest cushion. The Fuloon range is 23.6 / 21.6 = 1.09, about 9 percent. A cover used at the bottom of a wide range may hang loosely and one used at the top may be taut, so a snug fit is most likely in the middle of the range. That is our reasoning from the numbers, not something either listing states.

The set cover is measured differently

The H.VERSAILTEX listing is a three-piece set and gives one range for the total sitting area: 58.8 to 88.5 inches. Add the widths of all your seat cushions. A sofa with three cushions of 24 in each has 3 x 24 = 72 in, which is inside the range. A loveseat with two cushions of 24 in has 48 in, which is below 58.8 and outside it. The listing says it suits both T-cushion and box-cushion styles, and adds that you should measure before ordering.

Fabric and care

The three listings use three fabrics. The H.VERSAILTEX is 85 percent polyester and 15 percent spandex in a jacquard twill. The Fuloon is 57 percent polar fleece, 35 percent PU leather and 8 percent spandex, and the listing says to clean it with a wet cloth or to machine wash on a gentle, cold cycle with no bleach. The PrinceDeco is a plush velvet, and Wikipedia notes velvet is difficult to clean because of its pile, so read the care label for your exact cover.

Stretch covers also rely on elastic and straps. The Fuloon listing mentions elastic bottoms and adjustable straps, which help the cover stay put, but nothing replaces a good fit.

Good for odd-sized cushions. Keep in mind: it is sold as two pieces, so a three-cushion sofa needs two packs, and the wide range may leave slack at the small end.

Try it on a real sofa’s numbers

The Lexicon microfiber sofa we read in couch and sofa set lists a seat width of 68 inches for three cushions and a seat depth of 22.5 inches. If the three cushions are equal (our assumption), each is 68 / 3 = 22.7 inches wide and about 22.5 inches long. The thickness is not given, so we cannot test it.

• Fuloon: length 22.5 is inside 21.6 to 23.6, but width 22.7 is outside 24 to 25.9, so it does not fit.
• PrinceDeco: length 22.5 is inside 19.6 to 29.5 and width 22.7 is inside 21.6 to 30.5, so it fits if the thickness is between 2 and 10 inches.
• H.VERSAILTEX set: the total sitting width of 68 inches is inside 58.8 to 88.5, so it fits.

The same sofa can pass one cover and fail another, so test each cover against your own numbers.

Questions to send the seller

• Do the stated ranges refer to the cushion or to the finished cover?
• Is the cover for a T-cushion, a box cushion or both?
• What is the maker’s care label, and is it safe to tumble dry?
• How many covers are in the pack, and are they identical?
• What is the return policy if the fit is wrong?

1. Measure every cushion; do not assume they are equal.
2. Compare all three numbers with the ranges, plus the total width for set covers.
