Quick answer

A corduroy couch is judged on three things the title rarely says: how wide the ridges (wales) are, what the fiber is, and how much the whole piece weighs, which hints at what is inside. In the three corduroy couches we read on Amazon on 2026-10-01, weight runs from 21 to 160 pounds and seat height, where it is credible, is only about 12 inches.

What corduroy is

Wikipedia describes corduroy as a textile with a raised cord, or wale, texture, made of tufted cords with channels between them. Wale width is measured by wale count, which is the number of wales per inch. A lower count means a thicker wale: a 4-wale fabric is thicker than an 11-wale one. Counts run from about 1.5 to 21, the traditional standard is 10 to 12, and wide wale is the kind used for furniture upholstery. The page also calls corduroy a durable cloth, with cotton the common fiber.

None of the three listings below states a wale count or a fiber percentage that we saw, so those two questions are for the seller.

Worked example: spacing between wales is one divided by the count. A 4-wale fabric has wales about 1 / 4 = 0.25 in apart. An 8-wale fabric is 1 / 8 = 0.125 in, and an 11-wale fabric is about 1 / 11 = 0.09 in. Wide wale shows its ridges from across the room and fine wale looks closer to a plain fabric.

Weight is a clue to the build

Corduroy couches in listings are mostly boneless, meaning foam without a rigid frame, so they are light for their size. Weight per inch of width is a rough hint of what is inside. This is our own comparison, not a standard, and it does not prove quality.

The arithmetic is weight divided by width: 21 / 68 is about 0.31, 68 / 78 is about 0.87 and 160 / 95 is about 1.68. The ModMood is more than five times as heavy per inch as the Tykacna (1.68 / 0.31 is about 5.4). That gap suggests very different amounts of foam or other material, but the listing is what tells you whether there is a frame, so read the bullets.

Seat height: only one number looks right

Boneless couches sit low. Two of the three tables give a “seat height” equal to the overall height (25.6 in for the Erament and 25 in for the ModMood), which means those fields were probably copied. The Tykacna table says 31 centimeters, which is 31 / 2.54 = 12.2 in. That is very low, and it is the only credible seat height of the three. A seat near 12 inches is easy to sit down on and harder to get up from, which matters for anyone with stiff knees.

Fit in a room

Worked example on a 12 ft (144 in) wall: the 95 in ModMood leaves 49 in, the 78 in Erament leaves 66 in and the 68 in Tykacna leaves 76 in. The ModMood is an L with a listed depth of 70 in, so in a 14 ft (168 in) deep room it leaves 168 − 70 = 98 in for a table and walkway. OROA, a furniture retailer, suggests 14 to 18 inches between sofa and coffee table and 30 to 36 inches for main walkways, and 98 in leaves room for both.

Boneless couches ship compressed. That makes them easy to carry through a door but they need time to expand, and one boneless listing we read elsewhere (the COMAX) asks for 24 to 72 hours. Read the listing for the couch you buy.

Three corduroy couches read on 2026-10-01

The table gives 70 x 95 x 25 in (D x W x H), 160 lb, a 25 in seat depth, three seat cushions and two pieces. The bullets describe a flexible 2-piece modular L, deep seats, high-density compressed foam, durable performance fabric and tool-free assembly. Good for a large room and a lounging chaise. Keep in mind: the “seat height” field repeats the overall height, and the title says “left chaise” while the size field and the title’s closing words say right-facing, so confirm the chaise side before you order.

Tykacna 70″ Boneless Couch, 3 Seater, Extra Deep Seats, Corduroy. The table gives 23 x 68 x 20 in, 21 lb and three seat cushions. The bullets describe high-density memory foam, a supportive back and a deep seating area. Good for a small room and the lightest carry. Keep in mind: the title says 70 in while the table says 68 in, the 23 in depth is the same as the 23 in seat depth field, and at 20 in high there is little back support.

Erament 78″ Corduroy Convertible Sofa Bed, Boneless, King Size. The table gives 35.4 x 78 x 25.6 in, 68 lb, a 24.8 in seat depth, a single cushion and a 1,000 lb capacity. The bullets say it converts from a 3-seater couch into a king-size folding mattress sleeper bed, with a solid-cut foam seat and a non-slip base. Good for a guest bed that doubles as a couch. Seat width per person, where you can work it out

Only the ModMood gives enough to estimate seating. It lists a 95 in overall width and three seat cushions, with a 70 in depth for the L, but no arm width, so we cannot subtract arms. Ignoring the chaise, a three-cushion run along the 95 in side gives at most 95 / 3 = 31.7 in per cushion before any arm thickness, so the real figure is lower. The Tykacna lists three cushions in 68 in, which is 68 / 3 = 22.7 in each before arms, so each seat is snug. The Erament has a single long cushion, so the seats are not separated and the room per person depends on how you sit. These are upper bounds from the listed widths, not figures the sellers give.

Questions to send the seller

• What is the wale count, and is it wide wale?
• What is the fiber, cotton, polyester or a blend, and is the cover removable and washable?
• What is the real seat height from the floor and the real seat depth?
• If it converts to a bed, what are the open length and width in inches?
• How long should the foam be left to expand after unboxing?

Choosing a corduroy couch

1. Ask for the wale count and the fiber. If they are not stated, treat both as unknown.
2. Read the weight and what the bullets say about the frame.
3. Use the seat height only if it differs from the overall height.
4. Check the width against your wall and the depth against your walkway.
5. If you want it as a bed, read the open size, not the closed size.

You may not need a very low couch. If you have stiff knees or hips, a framed sofa with a seat near 18 inches is easier to leave than a boneless one at 12 inches.

Mistakes to avoid

• Assuming corduroy means hard-wearing. Wikipedia says it is considered durable, but the fiber and wale count decide how.
• Reading “king” as a mattress size.
• Believing a seat height that equals the overall height.
• Ignoring the weight. A 21 lb couch and a 160 lb couch are very different products.
• Skipping the expansion time for compressed foam.
