Quick answer
A power reclining sofa takes more floor reclined than upright, so the numbers to find are the reclined length, the wall clearance and the door width. The three listings we read on Amazon on 2026-10-01 give reclined lengths of 38.4, 50.7 and 65.35 inches, and wall clearances of 9.45 and 5 inches where stated. One listing says it needs a 36 inch door, which is wider than the 32 inch clear width the U.S. Access Board uses for doorways, so a standard door may not pass it. In a room with 120 inches between the wall and the opposite wall, the longest reclined length leaves 54.65 inches.
We have not tested any of these sofas, and every size, weight and feature is the seller’s number. Some tables disagree with the titles, and we flag that below. For the manual version, see recliner sofa; for the general sofa and sectional decision, see sofas and sectionals.
What power adds, and what it asks for
A power recliner moves with a button or a switch instead of a lever, and many add USB ports, heat or massage. The cost is a power cord to a wall socket, a motor that can fail and a heavier sofa. The Naomi loveseat in this guide is listed at 284 lb and the MCombo at 95 lb in its table, which is a large gap that we question below.
A wall hugger recliner is built to sit close to the wall when it reclines. The listings give a wall clearance figure, which is the gap to leave between the back and the wall. A recliner without that feature needs more space behind it.
Reclined length and floor space
The reclined length is how far the sofa extends when fully reclined. It decides whether you can recline in front of a TV or a coffee table. Here is what the three listings state.
| Listing | Upright size (D x W x H) | Reclined length | Wall clearance |
|---|---|---|---|
| MCombo 92 in 3-seater with console | 36.2 x 57.8 x 40.9 in (table) | 3.2 ft (38.4 in) | 9.45 in |
| Naomi Chicago power loveseat | 40.16 x 72.64 x 42.19 in | 50.7 in | not stated |
| Wall hugger loveseat with massage and heat | 39.5 x 54.7 x 40 in | 65.35 in | 5 in |
Worked example. Say the sofa faces a TV across a room with 120 inches between the two walls, and the sofa’s back is against the wall. These figures are an example we chose, not a standard. The space left in front of the reclined sofa is 120 minus the reclined length: 120 − 38.4 = 81.6 inches, 120 − 50.7 = 69.3 inches and 120 − 65.35 = 54.65 inches. OROA, a furniture retailer, suggests 30 to 36 inches for main walkways, so even the longest reclined length leaves 18.65 to 24.65 inches over that guideline (54.65 − 36 = 18.65; 54.65 − 30 = 24.65) before you add a coffee table.
The listings do not say whether the reclined length already includes the wall clearance, so add the clearance to be safe. For the wall hugger, 65.35 + 5 = 70.35 inches.
The MCombo table does not match its title
The MCombo title says 92 inches, and its size field says 3 Seater with Console. But the table prints 36.2 x 57.8 x 40.9 inches, which could be one seat of the sofa and not the whole. A table that lists a 95 lb weight for a 92 inch power sofa with a console is also light. Ask for the whole-sofa size, because your plan for the wall depends on it. The same table lists a 22 inch seat depth, a 19.6 inch seat height and a listed weight capacity of 640 pounds.
Doors and delivery
Furniture Academy says the entryway has to be wider than at least one of a piece’s depth, height or diagonal depth. The U.S. Access Board gives 32 inches as a minimum clear width at doorways on accessible routes. The MCombo’s table lists a minimum required door width of 36 inches, so its sofa might not pass a 32 inch door as one piece, and you should ask whether it ships in sections. The Naomi’s table lists a minimum required door width of 70.86 inches, which is the width of the sofa and cannot be a real door requirement, so ask the seller what it means.
Both the MCombo and the Naomi showed our Hanoi delivery address could not receive them. That is a geography limit and says nothing about US stock.
Features worth a second look
The MCombo’s bullets describe a power recline to 155 degrees, a zero gravity position, a six-point massage with lumbar heat, USB ports and cup holders. The Naomi’s bullets describe switch-controlled power reclining, built-in speakers, wireless charging, LED lights and hidden storage, with air leather over a wooden frame and a metal base. The third listing describes massage with eight points and five modes, plus lumbar heat, an adjustable headrest and an assembly that takes 30 minutes without tools.
Each extra feature is one more thing that needs power and can break. If you do not use massage or speakers, a plain power recliner has fewer parts. That is our judgment and not a measured fact.
Three recliners read on 2026-10-01
MCombo 92 in 3 Seater Reclining Sofa with Storage Console 6034M4 (B0CGF2SQJQ). The table gives 36.2 x 57.8 x 40.9 in, 95 lb, a seat depth of 22 in, a seat height of 19.6 in, seating for three, a reclined length of 3.2 ft, a wall clearance of 9.45 in and a minimum required door width of 36 in. The bullets describe power recline to 155 degrees, massage with lumbar heat and a reinforced steel and wood frame. Good if you want the most features in a three-seater. Keep in mind: the table size and weight do not fit a 92 inch sofa, and a 36 inch door requirement is wider than a standard door.
Naomi Home Chicago Power Recliner Loveseat with Wireless Charging, LED Lights and Built-in Speakers, White (B0F4FVZ5HF). The table gives 40.16 x 72.64 x 42.19 in, 284 lb, a seat depth of 22.83 in, a reclined length of 50.7 in, a listed weight capacity of 1,000 pounds, four recline positions and air leather. Care is a damp cloth. Good if you want a home-theater loveseat. Keep in mind: it is heavy at 284 lb, and the door-width field of 70.86 inches is not credible.
Loveseat Recliner Sofa with Massage and Heat, Wall Hugger Reclining Love Seat, RV Double Recliner Couch, Black (B0G2XWY586). The table gives 39.5 x 54.7 x 40 in, 144 lb, a seat depth of 22.44 in, a reclined length of 65.35 in, a wall clearance of 5 in and a listed weight capacity of 600 pounds, in faux leather. The bullets describe a metal frame, two remotes and assembly in about 30 minutes. Good if you want a compact wall hugger loveseat. Keep in mind: the title and bullets do not say whether the recline is powered or manual, so ask before you assume it is a power model.
How to choose
- Find the reclined length and add the wall clearance.
- Subtract it from your room dimension and compare with the walkway guideline.
- Check the door width the listing states against your own doors.
- Ask for the whole-sofa size when the table looks like one seat.
- Decide which extras you will use.
You may not need a power sofa. A manual recliner has no cord, no motor and a lower weight, and a power lift chair is a different product for a different need; see recliner sofa for the manual choices. If you only want one reclining seat, a single recliner takes less floor than a sofa.
Mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring the reclined length and measuring only the upright size.
- Placing the sofa too close to the wall without checking clearance.
- Trusting a table that shows one seat’s size.
- Forgetting the cord path and the wall socket.
- Reading a door-width field without comparing it to your own door.
Bottom line
A power reclining sofa is a floor and door decision before it is a feature decision. Of the three, the wall hugger has the longest reclined length at 65.35 inches, the Naomi is the heaviest at 284 lb and the MCombo asks for the widest door at 36 inches. Ask the seller to confirm size, weight and power before you order.
Frequently asked questions
How much space does a power reclining sofa need?
The three here list reclined lengths of 38.4 to 65.35 inches, plus wall clearance of 5 to 9.45 inches where stated.
What is a wall hugger recliner?
It is a recliner designed to sit close to the wall when it reclines. The listings give a wall clearance of 5 or 9.45 inches.
Will a power reclining sofa fit through my door?
Check the door width in the listing. One lists 36 inches, and the Access Board uses 32 inches as a minimum clear width at doorways, so a sofa may need to ship in sections.
Do power recliners need an outlet?
Yes, they need power. Ask where the cord goes and whether a battery pack is available.
Is a power recliner better than a manual one?
It is easier to use and adds a motor, a cord and weight. Choose by who will use it.
