BestOffice vs TRALT Home Office Chairs: Which Fits a Small Desk?

BestOffice and TRALT both sell mesh-back ergonomic desk chairs that are often shortlisted together for a home office. The two brands are not the same kind of chair, though. The BestOffice in our file is a mid-back swivel chair that lists an 18-inch footprint and a seat height range of 17.1 to 20.3 inches. The two TRALT listings are larger chairs, about 26 inches wide and 38 to 40 inches tall, with a listed 330 lb weight recommendation. Chair size, seat height and the space behind the chair decide more than the brand, so this guide compares the listed figures and names the places where two listings disagree.

Quick answer

Choose the BestOffice mid-back chair if your desk sits in a tight corner or a narrow room, and you want a chair with a smaller footprint and a listed item weight of 19 lb. Choose a TRALT if you are a larger user and want the higher listed weight recommendation of 330 lb, and you have room for a wider, taller chair. Both listings give a seat height range or a single seat height, so check that the chair fits your desk height before you order.

Measure before you compare

Three numbers matter for a small desk: the width the chair takes up when it is pushed under the desk, the space you need to pull it back, and the desk height. Our product file gives the chair footprint but not the chair clearance. Leave the margin yourself, and check your desk height against the chair’s seat range. The usual planning check is to be able to sit with your feet flat and your forearms level with the desk, which is a planning starting point, not a measured standard.

The chairs in our file give depths between 17.3 and 18 inches for the seat. If your desk is shallow, a deep chair can sit too far from the screen, so check the desk depth as well as the width.

BestOffice or TRALT: what changes in daily use

Footprint. The BestOffice is 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep. The TRALTs are about 26 inches wide and 21.7 inches deep. In a tight corner, the BestOffice takes less floor space. In a room with a wider desk, the TRALT’s larger base may not matter.

Height. The BestOffice lists an adjustable seat height from 17.1 to 20.3 inches, so it can suit a range of desk heights. The TRALT listings give one seat height figure, 21.7 inches on one of the two listings, and no range in our file. If your desk is a standard height and you need a chair that goes lower, the BestOffice range is the one to check.

Weight limit. The TRALT listings give a 330 lb maximum recommended weight in the specification fields. The BestOffice bullet points give 250 lb for the mesh frame, which is lower. If body weight is a concern, the TRALT figure is the higher one on the listed numbers, but check the product page for the exact limit.

Assembly. The BestOffice bullet points say 10 to 15 minutes with no extra tools. The TRALT listing says assembly is required, with instructions included, but our file gives no assembly time.

Armrests and lumbar. Both families list adjustable lumbar support. The BestOffice bullets mention ergonomic armrests, and the TRALT bullets describe a lumbar mechanism that adjusts depth. Our file does not give the armrest height range for either chair, so check the page if armrests matter for your desk.

Who should pick which

Pick the BestOffice if your desk is in a corner or a narrow room, you want a chair that adjusts over a seat-height range, and the 250 lb mesh-frame rating covers your needs. It is the lighter chair, at 19 lb, and the smaller footprint.

Pick a TRALT if you want the higher 330 lb recommended limit, and you have room for a chair about 26 inches wide. Check the seat height against your desk before you order, because the two TRALT listings give different overall heights and only one gives a seat height.

Skip a chair from this group if your desk height is outside the chair’s range, or if you cannot pull the chair back without hitting a wall. The BestOffice and the TRALT both need room behind the chair, and no listing in our file states the clearance.

Listing conflicts to check

  • TRALT height. The two TRALT listings give 40 inches and 38.2 inches for overall height. They describe the same chair, so confirm the figure on the product page before you check clearance under a shelf.
  • TRALT width. The listings give 25.7 and 25.6 inches. The difference is small, but both figures should be checked against your space.
  • TRALT item weight. One listing gives 28 lb as the item weight, and the other does not state one in our file.
  • TRALT warranty. One listing’s warranty field reads “No”, which is unclear, so confirm the warranty on the product page before you buy.
  • BestOffice seat height. The bullet points give a range of 17.1 to 20.3 inches, and the seat height field gives 20.1 inches. The single figure sits inside the range, so the two do not conflict, but the range is the figure to plan around.

Measurement checklist

  • Desk height, and the height of the seat you need, measured on your own floor.
  • Width of the space the chair takes up when pushed under the desk.
  • Room to pull the chair back and stand up, with the wall behind it.
  • Your own weight, checked against the weight limit on the product page.

What we could not confirm

  • We have not tested any of these chairs, so comfort, durability, gas-lift performance and noise are not checked here.
  • Claims in the bullet points about foam resilience, certification and mesh durability come from the listings. We have not verified them.
  • Armrest heights and chair clearance are not in our file for these chairs.

Frequently asked questions

Which chair suits a small desk better?

The BestOffice has the smaller footprint, at 18 by 18 inches, so it fits a tight corner more easily. The TRALT listings are about 26 inches wide. Measure the space behind the chair as well, because the chair must move back for you to get out of it.

Is a TRALT chair better for a heavier user?

The TRALT listings give a 330 lb maximum recommended weight, and the BestOffice bullets give 250 lb for its mesh frame. On the listed numbers, the TRALT is the higher limit. Check the product page for the limit on the model you choose.

Do I need to assemble these chairs?

The BestOffice listing says assembly takes 10 to 15 minutes with the hardware included and no extra tools. The TRALT listing says assembly is required, with instructions included. Our file does not give an assembly time for the TRALT.

Are these chairs tested?

No. We have not tested any of the chairs in this guide. The specs and features come from the listings in our product file, and the certification claims in the bullet points are the listing’s claims, not ours.
